For this blog, I'm a double review of two of my favorite Scooby-Doo films, and who doesn't love Scooby-Doo. We all grew up with Scooby-Doo and Mystery INC, from old to new shows.
We all grew up with talking dog and his friends Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphnia.
So here is my review of two of my favorite Scooby-Doo films for this Halloween.
Zombie Island and The Witch's Ghost.
To me, Zombie Island is the best Scooby Doo because it was the relaunch of the franchise. This film went dark, like instead of being some criminal in a costume, it's real. Real zombies and werecats. Zombie Island is about the gang getting back together and Daphina trying to get her show to be a big hit, so Fred gets everyone back together, and they go to New Orleans and learn from a woman named Lena that Moon Scar Island is said to be haunted. So the gang goes there, and it is not some joke. The island is haunted, and I love how they did the zombies and cat people.I mean, the zombies were so scary in this film. I had friends who were scared of this film.
I like the twist where the zombies were not the real bad guys but were victims of Simone, Lena, and Jacque.
I think the twist, in the end, was very clever with Simone and Lena being the real villains of the film, and I found these two characters scarier because it was unexpected. They seem like good people. However, in truth, they were monsters, but when you see their origin, it's dark even for a Scooby Doo film. Still, what Simone and Lena did to those innocent people was awful.
The cast of this film all did a great job voicing their characters, like Billy West as Shaggy, Scott Ines as Scooby (He would take over as Shaggy in Witch's Ghost because Billy West was too busy with Futurama), B.J. Ward as Velma, Frank Welker, whose been the voice of Fred for more than 52 years, and the late Mary Kay Bergman as Daphnia who sadly died after the Witch's Ghost.
As well this film Mark Hamil as the Fisherman, Jim Cummings as Jacques, Tara Strong as Lena, Adrienne Barbeau as Simone, and Cam Clarke as Detective Beau.
This film is such a fun film to watch for Halloween. I watch it almost every October. I recommend not watching the sequel they made because it's awful. I give this film an 8 out of 10.
This film also introduces The Hex Girls.
The songs were fantastic.
Cast a spell on you.
Earth, Wind, Fire, and Air.
The Hex Girls were voiced by Jennifer Hale, Kimberly Brooks, and Jane Wiedilin.
Also, it's revealed the fake witch is actually Sally's father. Sally is the red hex girl and lead singer. Eventually, they discover where the journal is, revealing it to be a magic book. Ben only wanted the gang to help him find it and free his ancestor, who was actually in prison in the book.
However, my favorite scene in the film is when Shaggy throws a bucket of water at the witch, and she's like, "What was that?" and Shaggy's like, "You're not melting?!? Like it worked in the Wizard of Oz."
I really enjoy the ending where they are all keeping the book away from the Witch's Ghost. They win in the end, and the Hex Girls perform their song with Scooby and the Gang.
This film was so much fun to watch. I recommend it because it's got great voice acting, the film is funny, scary, and has excellent music, and who doesn't love Tim Curry and Tress Macneille as Sarah Ravencroft/The Witch's Ghost. I give this film a 7 out of 10.
So that's my double review of two of my favorite Scooby Doo films.
