Nightmare Before Christmas Review
To celebrate this classic 30th anniversary and seeing how it came out the year I was born.
Here's my review of it.
I love this film, and it's one of my favorite Halloween films to watch every October and December. It counts as a Christmas movie, too. This film has excellent stop-motion animation, and it has memorable songs like This is Halloween, which Marilyn Manson remade. Now, people have said this movie is overrated nowadays, but it isn't. It still holds up. There is also the debate if this is a Halloween film or a Christmas film.
The film focuses on Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King and King of Halloween Town. Voiced by Chris Sarandon, who I've met twice, and he's a cool guy. Also, Danny Elfman, the singing voice of Jack.
Jack does the same thing every year for Halloween and decides he wants to do something new for a change. He travels into the forest with his dog Zero, and he finds the Christmas tree door that sends him to Christmas Town. He loves everything Christmas is about and decides to take care of Christmas for Santa Claus this year because he wants to do something new. We also meet Sally, voiced by Catherine O'Hara, a Frankenstein monster who can sew herself apart. She's in love with Jack and wants to help him, but she has a vision that this will end badly for Jack. She's not wrong in the end.
All the monsters in Halloween Town are fun to look at and well-designed, and as they say, they are scary, but they're not mean.
The songs are memorable in this film, and the film's villain is excellent. Oogie is a scary villain, and all the bugs he has would make anyone's skin crawl.
The film has some excellent music scores and musical numbers like What's this? or Making Christmas. Also, I love Jack's What Have I Done, where he realizes he is the Pumpkin King and Halloween is his holiday. He saves Santa Claus and Sally from Oogie, who plans to kill them.
The film's ending was epic, and the song Jack's Back is a good end song.
In the end, Santa Claus brings Christmas to Halloween Town, showing there's no bad blood between Jack and Santa. Jack and Sally confess their love for each other and kiss.
I still enjoy it years later, and it still holds up 30 years later.
It's amazing how this film came out the same year I was born, and I'm 30 now.
I give Nightmare Before Christmas an
8 out of 10.
It's a great Halloween film and Christmas film.
Also, the director of the film said that he's interested in making a prequel film instead of a sequel film. It would be more fun to see a Jack Skellington Origin film.
Happy Halloween
to all my viewers.
