Hey everyone so in celebration of Pride Month heres my review of the indie film Beginners. Starting Ewan McGregor, Melanie Laurent, and of course the late Christopher Plummer.
The film focus on the character of Oliver whose sad over the death of his father Hal, he's now alone with just him and his dad's dog Arthur. Oliver goes to party where he falls in love with this woman named Anna whose an actress. The film also reflects on Oliver talking about his father coming out after his mother died and how his father embraced his homosexuality and became more open and accepting of himself, until his death from cancer. The film is really good and to me this one of my favourite indie films to be honest. Like the music score in this film is really good, the characters in the film are good as well like you can relate to them and their personal life and problems, I also love how this film uses pictures from different eras to describe what things were like back then.
The dog in the film Arthur, is one of the best characters in the film it makes you want to get a Jack Russell. Like you have Oliver now taking care of Arthur but he has to bring him everywhere because the dog freaks out. As well its clearly shown that Arthur misses Hal, like all dogs do when their owner dies before them.
The film is actually inspired by director Mike Mills's own personal experience because just like Oliver his father came out to him after his mother died and five years later his father died. So it's basically him telling his own personal story in this film and he did a great job with it.
This is really good film, it will make you happy, sad, but most of all its really good movie to watch on Pride Month. I give Beginners 8 out of 10. Give it watch.
