Now, after working, I would reboot the MCU. Here is a blog discussing each character's own journey in this universe.
Starting with the heart of the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man. There will be more blogs about each character's journey in my 'How I Would Reboot the MCU' series.
In the new MCU, Peter Parker has been Spider-Man for about five years, and he's in his early 20s.
He's a college student and works for the Daily Bugle.
Most of his supporting cast is in series like Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, Harry Osborn, Randolph Robertson, Flash Thompson, Kenny Kong, Liz Allen, Gloria Grant, Betty Brant, Ned Leeds, Curt Connors, Martha Connors, Aunt May, Jonah Jameson, Robbie Robertson, and Jean DeWolf. His Uncle Ben would be mentioned in the film, as he's the reason Peter became a crime fighter. Uncle Ben would also appear in a flashback in the third film.
In the films, we see Peter, like everyone else, try to balance his superhero career with his relationships, his friends, and working to pay the rent.
The first film would be called The Spectacular Spider-Man, the second film is called The Sensational Spider-Man, the third film is called The Web of Spider-Man, the fourth film is called The Avenging Spider-Man, the fifth film is called Spider-Men, and the sixth and final film is a two-parter called Ultimate Spider-Man.
Half of his rogues are already established: Shocker, Rhino, Electro, Vulture, Chameleon, The Lizard, Mysterio, Hydro-Man, and Sandman. Otto Octavies is in the first film and serves as a mentor to Peter until he learns that Otto is a member of the Masters of Evil. Norman Osborn appears in the film and would later become the Green Goblin in the sequel, while Eddie Brock would become Venom in the third installment. Norman in the first film is the CEO of OsCorp, and he's disappointed in his son, Harry. He sees Peter more as a son and gives Peter the chance to work with Otto. In this version, Otto works for OsCorp and is one of Norman's top scientists.
In the first film, Spider-Man faces off against the Scorpion, and Mac Gargan was chosen by Jonah Jameson because he wants to give New York a better superhero, as he hates Spider-Man. So, Jonah has Mac suit up as the Scorpion, given powers by a Scorpion experiment. However, it backfires, and Gargen decides he doesn't want to take orders for the rest of his life, and so he becomes a villain. Spider-Man, of course, has to stop Scorpion, and with the help of Otto, he updates his suit to do battle against Scorpion. Spider-Man defeats Scorpion, and out of the goodness of Peter's heart, he saves Jonah Jameson by defending him. Jonah didn't attend because Mac Gargen went crazy, and he was trying to help Spider-Man, but he went crazy. As much as Peter hates Jonah's newspaper about Spider-Man, Jonah pays him a lot, which helps him pay the rent.
Additionally, Peter is in a romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy; he's not yet with Mary Jane. The two of them have a good romance, but Peter hasn't told her yet that he's Spider-Man, as he wants to keep her safe after her father's death. Captain Stacy was killed saving a child from being crushed in a rumble. It's revealed that George figured out Peter was Spider-Man, but didn't care, as he saw Peter was saving lives. He promised not to tell Gwen and to keep her safe. However, after Scorpion tries to kill Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man saves her. By the end of the film, Peter decides to tell Gwen he's Spider-Man, but her father advises against it. Gwen understands, and she had a feeling he was Spider-Man, which explained a lot about where he was when trouble came. The two of them embrace each other, and she promises to keep a secret as he saved so many lives.
By the end of the film, Otto would show his armor tentacles to Peter, which Peter liked, but wondered about Otto's intentions in helping him with it. However, in secret, Otto was selling weapons to HYDRA, not the military. At the end of the film, we learn that Otto is, in fact, a member of the Masters of Evil. Peter doesn't know about this, as he trusts Otto and views him as a great mentor in his life since his uncle passed away. This revealed would hurt Peter but he has to stop Otto and the Masters of Evil from taking over the world.
The first film features a mid-credit scene that introduces Daredevil and Spider-Man, who have one of the best superhero friendships. They are like brothers. This scene sets up the Daredevil show and further expands on the Street-Level hero community.
Spider-Man would join the Avengers and be a founding member of the team in this universe. At first, he turns it down and also can't believe that Otto is a member of the Masters of Evil. We also see Spidey develop a friendship with Cap as Cap sees so much of him in Spider-Man. Spidey even said that as a kid, Captain America was his hero along with Iron Man too.
In this version, Cap serves as the role model to Spider-Man. He inspires Spidey and gives the speech from the comics. After hearing Cap's speech, he decides to accept the offer and become an Avenger.
Spider-Man gets his suit updated by Stark to prepare for fighting the Masters, and it's based on the Parker Industries suit. He also forms a friendship with Hawkeye, which would later lead to the New Avengers. He also gets along with Wasp, and she's like a big sister to him, Thor, and Hulk, and Hulk likes Spider-Man because he doesn't view him as a monster. He gets along with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, despite their past crimes; they are making amends for their past crimes. However, Quicksilver finds Spider-Man annoying.
Spider-Man would do battle against the Masters of Evil, and Spider-Man would fight Doc Ock.
During the fight, Doc Ock plans to launch a nuclear missile at the White House, but Spidey stops him, and he tells Spider-Man he knows he's Peter Parker. Spider-Man tells him how betrayed he feels by Otto, as he looked up to him like a father. Otto shows a sign of shame for what he's doing, but he believes in Zemo's conquest. Spider-Man takes down Otto and helps the Avengers save the day. The Masters are arrested for their crimes, and Peter says goodbye to Otto, telling him he hopes one day he will do better with his life. Those words affect Otto, as we later will see. The Avengers go their separate ways for now until the Skrulls come.
We see the Avengers go on their lives, and we see Peter arrive for his date with Gwen Stacy, and Peter tells her he's made dinner reservations at this fancy restaurant. Gwen is surprised but doesn't care, as they are together and enjoy dinner; the bill is already paid. Peter turns to see Tony Stark waving a glass at him.
In the next film, Spidey battles his arch enemy, the Green Goblin.
Now, after the events of Avengers, OsCorp has been questioned by SHIELD for Otto's actions in selling weapons to HYDRA. Norman assures them they didn't know about this, but the board at OsCorp decides they need to sell the company to Life Foundation to save themselves. Norman doesn't want this, but the board wants to proceed with it. Norman is angry about this and decides to take matters into his own hands. He enters his lab and injects himself with the G serum, a project he has been working on for years. It was mentioned in the first film of G serum. Norman goes crazy with it, and he opens a door, revealing a glider, bombs, and a green suit with purple accents. Norman puts on a mask that turns him into a goblin.
The Green Goblin is born.
In the film, Spider-Man is out patrolling New York, keeping the city safe, and maintaining his relationships tactfully with friends. Although he's still struggling to balance his personal life and superhero career. Also, he plans to propose to Gwen Stacy.
That all changes when he meets the Green Goblin.
Spider-Man battles the Green Goblin, who becomes his archenemy and one of his most dangerous foes. The Green Goblin would also have a gang of thugs that he hires to help, as Norman has always had a desire to be a crime boss. Green Goblin commits horrible crimes, kills most of OsCorp's board, and tries to kill anyone who gets in his way. Spider-Man, of course, is in the way, and Green Goblin secretly follows Spider-Man and learns he is Peter Parker. Someone Osborn admired a lot and was his son's best friend. Norman decides to place a trap for Peter.
During this time, Peter and Gwen discuss their plans to move in together, and Peter is planning to propose to her, but wants to find the right moment. He is also prepared if she turns it down, as he needs to be ready for that. The only people he told are his aunt May, Randolph, Harry, and Liz Allen. Both Peter and Gwen are having a great time, and they seem so happy despite the many tragedies they've faced, such as his uncle's death and her father's death; they are still together.
MJ doesn't know, as she and Harry are no longer together, but they are still good friends. In truth, she's in love with Peter but knows he loves Gwen and respects that. Mary Jane just wants him to be happy.
During a big dinner party, Peter notices Norman acting strangely towards him and even squeezing Peter's hand too tightly for no apparent reason. Later, Norman, during the dinner party, asks Peter how he gets those photos of Spider-Man, to which Peter replies that he knows him and gets him to do poses for him. Osborn then mentions that secrets always have a cost, and we begin the goblin side. A bomb goes off, and everyone escapes the burning mansion, except Peter, who tries to go back in to save Norman. However, the Green Goblin appears and captures Peter.
We get this iconic moment in the comics, and this is where Osborn reveals himself as the Green Goblin.
Peter is shocked to learn that Green Goblin is his best friend's father. Norman explains that he injected himself with the G serum to help him become powerful. However, the side effects include giving a split personality. He tells Peter that he can give him this power and make him his heir, as he hates his son Harry. Peter refuses and is disgusted by Norman's hate for his son. Norman doesn't care, and if Peter won't join him, he decides he's going to destroy his life and kill someone he loves dearly. He leaves, and Peter is tied up with strong chains. Peter eventually breaks free with the help of his prototype spider bot. Peter worries about who he is going to kill.
As you know, he goes after Gwen Stacy, whom Peter loved the most. He goes to find Gwen. Gwen is at her place trying to call Peter, as she is deeply worried about him. Mary Jane comes to comfort her about Peter, but a bomb explodes at her apartment, and it's the Green Goblin laughing with joy. He kidnaps Gwen and takes her to the Brooklyn Bridge. Spider-Man swings across New York until he reaches Gwen's apartment, which is on fire. Spider-Man searches, and he finds Mary Jane outside the building. She calls for him. Mary Jane tells Spider-Man he's taking the Brooklyn Bridge. Spider-Man swings to the bridge and confronts Norman. He tells her to let her go, and Norman simply laughs. He attacks Peter, and the two of them engage in a fight. Gwen tries to escape, but then Osborn throws a bomb and falls from the bridge.
Spider-Man screams Gwen's name and shoots his web to save her, but it is too late.
This scene would be straight out of the comics. Peter has lost his first love and screams out to the Green Goblin, who just laughs with joy, like we hate Green Goblin for this.
Spider-Man takes her body and hands her over to the police, and the police all tell Spider-Man how sorry they are. Jonah sees this, and for once, he doesn't blame Spider-Man; he actually knows it was Green Goblin who did this. Spider-Man searches for the Green Goblin and finds him at his secret lab. Spider-Man and the Green Goblin have one epic, big fight, and you feel Peter's rage as he's not holding back. Spider-Man almost comes close to killing him, but he stops and asks him why he would ruin his life. Green Goblin responds because he and his Avengers destroyed his life, and that Spider-Man was something he wanted to be, but Spider-Man ruined it. Spider-Man tells him he did that to himself and that Norman Osborn is a selfish man who only cares about himself. Much like the old Spider-Man film, we get the glider scene.
Now, there's no "Don't tell Harry," Norman dies, and Peter looks at his corpse. He lets go of his anger as Norman's death won't bring back Gwen, and he would not take pride in it. After that, Spider-Man leaves, but unknown to him, someone was watching from the shadows.
Peter returns home in tears over Gwen's death, and Mary Jane is there. She tries to comfort Peter, but he is too angry about what happened. As Peter mourns Gwen, she considers leaving, but instead, she stays and comforts him.
We then have the funerals for Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborn as well. Norman's body was found, but no one knows he was the Green Goblin, as it was kept hushed up. We see all the characters and Gwen's family, as well as Harry, mourn her death. Peter tells Harry he's sorry about his father, and Harry says he blames Spider-Man for his father's death. Peter asks how he can blame Spider-Man, to which Harry reveals he saw the fight and knows his father was the Green Goblin, but wouldn't let his family legacy be destroyed by this. Peter understands, but Harry tells him he won't stop till Spider-Man answers for his crime.
Harry's drug addiction would play a part in the following films as he develops schizophrenia. .
Peter would give a speech at Gwen's funeral, talking about how much he loved her. Afterwards, Peter spends time alone until he goes to the Avengers Tower. He meets with Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, and Black Panther.
They learned about what happened to Gwen, and Peter breaks down, but Wasp comforts him. As do the others, as they tell him that they all have gone through what he has. T'Challa, who is a new member, tells Peter that death is not the end. It's more of a stepping off point and Gwen's death was not his fault but the fault of the Green Goblin. Wasp even tells him that no matter what, he's a hero, and he's a hero that many can be inspired by. Cap even says, "You're the best out of all of us. Because you don't give up." Hearing this inspires Peter not to give up and reminds him of his promise, "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility." Afterwards, reports come in of a villain attack near Manhattan. The Avengers assemble, and all of them go into action. Spidey asks if he can say it, to which Captain America allows.
Spidey shouts Avengers Assemble!
Spider-Man's words really help Matt as he later meets with Peter and thanks him, considering him a brother in his life.
It's a heart-warming scene from one episode of Spider-Man.
Now, after this, we get the Knights film.
Now, after this, we get the Knights film.
In this film, we have a group led by Daredevil go to Japan to rescue those held by Elektra and the Hand. Spider-Man joins the team, and his fellow teammate Clint Barton joins, becoming Ronin after quitting as Hawkeye. After the first season of Hawkeye in part 2. The team travels to Japan, and like the New Avengers story arc, they save Echo, and Echo kills Elektra, who turns out to be a Skrull.
The Invasion has begun.
Afterwards, Spider-Man appears in Avengers: Secret Invasion. He goes to Avengers Tower to show the body of the Skrull Elektra. Spider-Man, along with half of the Avengers, goes to savage land to find a Skrull ship, but as they see it, they find versions of themselves who are actually sleeper Skrulls. Spider-Man is trapped on the Savage Island as the Skrulls go forth with their invasion.
Spider-Man eventually gets off the island with the help of Mr. Fantastic, Photon, and Abigail. The team arrives in New York, and the battle for New York begins. .
The battle is huge, and during the battle, Wasp grows large. However, unknowingly, a Skrull disguised as Hank Pym had given her a growth serum that contained a bomb. She's about to explode until Thor kills her. Spider-Man is saddened by the Wasp's death, as she was the best Avenger he knew and the one who named the team. Spider-Man continued fighting until the Skrull Queen was killed by Gregory Stark. Spider-Man is present when the Avengers disassemble, as the team breaks up following Janet's death.
The next Spider-Man film has Peter Parker bonding with the symbiote suit. In this version, the symbiote arrives on Earth as a mentor and studies at the Life Foundation, eventually escaping. It bonded with Spider-Man while it escaped. After bonding with the suit, Peter grew to like it, as it made him more powerful; however, he became angrier, and his dark side began to show. He also starts to develop romantic feelings for Mary Jane, but after what happened to Gwen, he's not sure if he wants that.
The Sin Eater would be portrayed in the film as a villain who kills specific individuals viewed as sinners.
No one knows who the Sin Eater is, and detective Jean Dewolf is on the case.
Jean DeWolf has a larger role in the film, having appeared in previous films in a minor role. She's a detective and works with Spider-Man on cases. She was a good friend of Captain Stacy, just as he respected Spider-Man. Jean tells Spider-Man about the Sin-Eater, and he investigates the murders, using the black suit to increase his powers. She also has a husband named Stanley Carter, who was a former SHIELD Agent until it was disbanded after the Secret Invasion. Stanley was angry about this, but he became a detective for the NYPD; his wife helped him get the job. Stanley, we see, has a lot of issues and anger over everything that happened after the Skrull invasion. The two of them investigate the murders caused by the Sin-Eater. They encounter the Sin-Eater, and Spider-Man fights him, but Spidey turns violent, almost killing him; however, the Sin-Eater manages to escape. Jean was shocked by what Spider-Man did, but Spidey says he deserves it. Spidey becomes angrier and more aggressive due to the symbiote. Jean tells him he's better than that, as the Spider-Man she knows would never go that far. Spider-Man simply ignores and swings away, and tells her if he finds any updates on the Sin-Eater.
Eddie Brock would play a significant role in the film, and he would transform into Venom. Eddie, in this version, works at the Bugle and wants to make it big to support his wife and their unborn child. Eddie and Peter don't get along as Brock is jealous of the photos he gets of Spider-Man. Eddie would suspect that the Sin-Eater is Emil Gregg.
However, during the story, Spider-Man learns of Jean's death. Driven by rage, he seeks out the Sin Eater, and he realizes that Jean had a theory about who the real Sin-Eater was. We start to see the symbiote corrupt Spider-Man as he gets angrier at his friends, Aunt May, and even Mary Jane. During his investigation, Spider-Man learns that Emil Gregg is not the real Sin-Eater as he finds him dead. Spidey confronts the real Sin-Eater as they fight. Spider-Man goes full beast mode and almost kills him. He learns the truth that Sin-Eater is Stanley Carter, Jean's husband. Spider-Man asks him why, and he explains that after SHIELD was disbanded, he felt anger, and he was angry at the sins of those who abused their power. Spider-Man grabs Sin-Eater's gun and almost prepares to shoot him, but stops as he remembers Jean's words to him. Instead, he webs up Stanley and exposes him for the Sin-Eater.
After this, Eddie Brock is fired from the Daily Bugle for his fake report. Anne, his wife, leaves him, and he becomes a laughingstock. We know this sets him up to become Venom.
After the fight, Spider-Man is shocked; he came close to killing Stanley, despite hating him as much as he did. Peter looks in the mirror, and we see Venom's face.
The next day, Spider-Man visits the Fantastic Four, and Reed learns that the suit is actually an alien symbiote. Hearing this, Spider-Man wants to get the suit off. By luck, they discovered that the symbiote is weak against loud sounds and fire, as Johnny's fire is particularly damaging to it.
Spider-Man heads to a church, and like Spider-Man 3, he breaks from the symbiote while having a battle from within. We see an inner struggle with the symbiote as it tries to reason with him until Uncle Ben tells Peter to remember his words, and Peter breaks free of the symbiote. Now we don't know what happens to the symboite, it's unknown what becomes of it.
Peter, of course, goes back to the Fantastic 4 tower, which needed a costume, and we see Bag-Man make his big debut.
Later in the film, Peter apologizes to everyone he was hard on and is forgiven because Peter explained he was going through a rough time. Aunt May tells him she knows how rough things have been, but she tells Peter that heroes never take a life but save it. This is a hint that Aunt May knows Peter is Spider-Man. May tells him that he should find love again because one day she might find someone, but that person won't replace Ben, as her love for Ben lives in her heart. Peter decides to go meet with Mary Jane as he realizes he's in love with her.
However, as he's at the subway station, all of a sudden he's pushed off and hits the rail. He manages to get out in time, but for some reason, Peter's Spider-sense didn't go off. After this, Peter arrives at Mary Jane's place and finds it broken into, with webbing on the wall. He says, "Come get her, tiger."
Earlier in the film, we see Mary Jane come home, and at first she thinks it's Peter, but it's actually Venom.
Eddie Brock has become Venom and now wants revenge on Spider-Man for ruining his life.
Spider-Man confronts Venom, and the two engage in a fight. Eddie reveals himself to Peter and expresses his anger towards Peter for ruining his life, explaining that after he lost his job, his wife left him, his father disowned him, and he became a laughing stock. He also reveals he planned to kill himself until the symbiote merged with him, as they both hated Peter. So they bonded just like that. Peter, of course, tries to reason with Brock that the symbiote is evil and that he is sorry for what he did to him, but Venom doesn't care.
During the fight, Spider-Man saves Mary Jane, and she tells him to go get 'em, tiger. Spider-Man, of course, almost loses the battle against Venom since he's blocking his spider-sense, but Spidey remembers loud sounds hurt the symbiote. He uses that and takes down Venom, and Eddie is arrested, but by HAMMER agents. The symbiote is then taken in by HAMMER. Spider-Man, of course, leaves as he wants nothing to do with HAMMER and Gregory Stark. However, unknown to Spidey, Gregory Stark is actually recruiting Eddie Brock to join his Dark Avengers as his Spider-Man.
Peter and Mary Jane would discuss what had happened with each other. Peter tells her he's afraid for her safety after what happened with Venom, as he feared he would lose her like he did with Gwen, but Mary Jane understands. Despite this, she loves Peter and wants to be with him, facing this danger together. The two admit their love and kiss passionately.
Now, after Spidey joins the New Avengers led by Clint Barton, and formed by Steve Rogers, who believes the world still needs the Avengers.
The team's first mission is to take down the Hood and his gang and prevent him from taking the title of Sorcerer Supreme.
Spider-Man sees on the news the Dark Avengers and realizes that's Eddie Brock as their Spider-Man. Spider-Man hates this as much as the others, as well as the idea of these Avengers, to which Peter calls them. The Fake Avengers.
Spidey would appear in the third Fantastic 4 film as he joins the team in facing off against Dr. Doom.
In this film, Spidey is the first new Avenger to battle the Dark Avengers during a fight with both Daken and Venom. He tells Daken that his mohawk is so 1980s, and his rematch with Venom is more brutal, as Venom won't stop until he kills Spider-Man. At this moment, we see that Venom is weak against fire, to which Johnny throws a fireball at Venom. Spider-Man is even named an honorary member of the Fantastic 4 after the events of Unthinkable.
Now, Spider-Man would appear in Avengers Siege. In this film, he joins the Avengers in a final battle against the Dark Avengers as they have invaded Asgard. Spider-Man has a rematch with Venom, but during the fight, Spidey rescues Anne, Eddie's ex-wife, who is also the mother of Eddie Brock's child. Dylan Brock, but he's only a few months old. Spidey tells Eddie and Anne that he still loves them. Spidey convinces Venom to switch sides as he's not the only one, as Ares switched sides too, and even Daken, but it's to save himself as he goes on the run after. During the battle, Ultron merges with the Void.
Meanwhile, Eddie gives the symbiote to Spidey, and it is then that the symbiote makes a truce with Spidey, allowing them to team up and fight Ultron together. However, Spidey is knocked out, and in the end, Ultron is defeated by Cap and Iron Man. His remains are thrown into the sun. Thor, thus, Ultron, and the Void are no more.
The Avengers prevail, and the world is saved. Spidey joins the celebration with Mary Jane, and it is then that Peter reveals that he plans to propose to Mary Jane to his friends, and Jessica Jones gives him advice. Whatever she says, respect it and understand. Spider-Man looks forward to what the future holds him as it's a Brand New Day.
