Dark Universe Reboot Idea.
Now we all know the Universal's own attempt at a Dark Universe failed miserably. However, it could happen again if it's done right. Like, here's how I would have done it, like the film is these monsters are put together to form a team led by Van Helsing's descendant, Val Helsing, and Victor Frankenstein's descendant, Dr. Victoria Frankenstein. They are formed by the government, called the Monsters. It's suicide Squad meets inGlorious Bastards mixed with horror.
The film is set during WW2, still giving it that old classic monster era vibe.
The team consists of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and bride, the Wolf-Man, Gill-Man, The Mummy, and the Invisible Woman. This is a group of monsters who many people would call monsters because they have done horrible things and killed innocent people, but they aren't truly evil. They are actually more sympathetic, like The Wolf Man, who hates his curse and wants to be free from it, The Creature seeks to be accepted and have a family, and the Invisible Woman is a bit of a psychopath, though, but she's like Dexter in a way.
I know Creature Commandos comics had the same storyline set in World War II, except this one is with the Universal Monsters, who basically join forces to save something important, gain respect, or save loved ones.
Besides, the real monsters in the film are the nazis and Mr. Hyde.
As well, Dracula says, "We maybe monsters but we are not as bad as those fucking nazis."
The main villain of the first phase, Mr. Hyde, joins with the nazis and creates more Mr. Hydes like him.
Now, how this is set up, I wouldn't do a setup like first you got to watch the Dracula film, then Frankenstein, the Mummy, and so forth.
Instead, I would introduce a Dark Universe where the characters are already on a team, and then I would create spin-offs of each character's own journey, as well as sequels to Monsters of Justice. Like if I were to do sequels, the second film is set in the 60s and aliens invade the planet, and the third film is set in the 90s and it's the apocalypse.
Also, this film is a hard-rated R film. It's a horror, action, adventure, comedy film.
There is a lot of blood and gore too!
Now here is my fan cast for a Dark Universe reboot film and I call the film The monsters.
Dylan O'Brien as Val Helsing
Val Helsing is the great-great-grandson of Van Helsing and continues his grandfather's legacy. However, with the nazis rising to power, he decides to form a team of monsters that will help defeat them, and Mr. Hyde, who has joined them and is creating new Mr. Hydes. He is joined by Victoria Frankenstien, who is the legitimate daughter of Victor Frankenstien. Val leads the team and keeps an eye on them to ensure they stay focused. He also has a long-standing feud with Dracula, as his great-great-grandfather fought him many times in the past.
Hailee Stenifeld as Dr. Victoria Frankenstein
She is a descendant of Victor Frankenstein and has become a scientist, just like him. She knows about the Creature, and she meets with him to save the world, as well as creating his Bride. She also talks to the monsters and asks them about their past lives, helping her better understand them. She also assists them during missions by inventing equipment that can aid them. She's also a love interest of Val.
Dracula is the first to join, and although he has bad blood with the Helsing family, he joins after the nazis took his castle. Dracula does have a sense of honor, and he remarried a human woman until she died, and Dracula promised her to be a better person. They have a son who is captured by the nazis. So Dracula joins to save his son from the nazis as they want to make him a weapon of war. I was inspired by Castlevania's take on the character.
Richard Madden as The Creature
Now the Creature is getting a new film this year, and I'm excited to watch it. This take on the Creature is that he's been living in exile and on his own and has helped people lost in the woods. He misses Victor because he was his creator, and he later meets his daughter Victoria and agrees to join the team, but he requests that his Bride be finished and promises he won't have children with her. The Creature sees this as a chance to finally be accepted for what he is, and he wants a family.
Now this Wolf-Man is cursed by a wolf bite, and he turns into the Wolf-Man, but he loses control and comes close to killing his wife and children. Val recruits him to the team, but Victoria also creates a silver necklace that will give him complete control of his werewolf side. Thus, he has more control of it, but also wants to be free from the curse, as he misses his family more than anything. His name is Larry Talbot.
Zazie Beetz as The Bride
The Bride is created by Victoria from new body parts, and the Bride is not like the one from Creature Commandos. She's scared of herself and wonders why she is alive again, as she doesn't believe in violence. The Creature and her bond get to know what it is like to be different. She joins the Monsters, but at first, she doesn't want to harm anyone because she doesn't like violence, until she sees the horror of what the nazis are doing. So she joins, kills the real monsters, but also, like the Creature, she wants to live in peace and have a family.
Dafne Keen as The Invisible Woman
Now the Invisible Woman is not like the Invisible Woman we know from Fantastic 4. This character is invisible because of a laboratory experiment gone wrong, and her whole body is invisible; she can't reappear. She uses her ability to steal as well as kill certain people; she's like a female version of Dexter. She has to wear bandages and glasses so people think she's a burned victim, but she's not. The Invisible Woman joins the Monsters because there is profit involved, and she can't pass up the offer to get money and kill fascists. Her name is Jackie Gryff.
Riz Ahmed as The Mummy
The Mummy, unlike the one we got with that Tom Cruise one, this Mummy was a pharaoh who was betrayed, but in truth, he's actually a sympathetic character. When he is alive again, he wants revenge for himself and his loved ones. However, when he learns the people who ruined his life are dead, but learns one of the nazis is a descendant of the man who betrayed him, he joins the Monsters to kill him and take back the treasure that they had stolen from his tomb. His name before he became the mummy was Imhotep.
The Gill-Man has always been a monster from the Amazon who has lived for thousands of years. This Gil-Man can talk and join the monsters in exchange; he can have his lagoon back and have no one go into it. However, the Gill-Man actually does want someone in his life as he does seek companionship, which he forms with the other monsters and with a human woman. He also doesn't enjoy killing people; he only kills them to protect his home and lagoon. also Gill-man needs water ever 24 hours as it gives him life so he is even a breathing device that give hims water so he can still hydrated longer on land.
Michael C Hall as Dr. Jekyall/Mr. Hyde
Now, Mr. Hyde is the main villain of the film as he has joined the Nazis and wants to conquer the world, but also create a new world with more Mr. Hydes like him. Mr. Hyde is a very hateful villain and has no sympathy for anyone as long as he gets what he wants. we more mr. Hydes just like him in the movie and they are terrifying. Andy Serkis as Igor
Igor was Victor Frankstien's assistant until the experiment went wrong. He was severely burned by the lightning, but someone gave him an extended life. He then joins Mr. Hyde and the nazi party to create more monsters and take over the world. In this version, Igor has always been a monster, and he convinced Victor to make the Creature; he is actually a monster himself who can change his appearance. He also goes the name Major Hans Maximilian. Emma Watson as Mina
Mina is Dracula's wife in this version. She remained human and died from natural causes. When she died, she and Dracula had a son named Vlad and told Dracula to be a good man and be there for their son. Dracula has visions of her and how much he misses her and how she taught humans.Maisie Williams as Julie
Julie is a scitenist who works with Victoria, and her original character is named after Julie Adams from the original Creature from the Black Lagoon. Now, as I wrote, the Gill-Man doesn't want anyone going into the lagoon ever again, but like I mentioned, he secretly does want companionship. He falls in love with Julie, and Del Toro already did this with The Shape of Water, and that is one of the best films he's ever made. I would still include the idea, and Julie starts to fall in love with him despite being a monster, and after learning of Dracula's romance with a human, she decides to live with him in the Black Lagoon. Simon pegg as Genreal Martin Stoker
General Martin Stoker is an original character and is a general during WW2, and helps fund the team. He even gives Val orders on where to attack enemy camps and rescue prison camps.
Jaz sinclair as Millza Talbot
Millza is Larry's wife in this version and she's also the mother of their three children. Millza loves her husband and wants him back but knows he is the wolf man. He promised her that he will break this curse but wants to protect her and their family from him.
So that's how I would reboot the Dark Universe, and who knows, maybe one Universal will say, let's try it again, but we will have a more creative team involved. Let's face it, everyone wants their own shared universe, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Doesn't mean you can't try again and get it right a second time.
