Who should be the big bad of the DCU?
Recently, James Gunn announced that Darkseid will not be the big bad of the DCU, which I understand. He pointed out that he didn't want a Thanos and that he loved how Zack Snyder portrayed Darkseid in his films. As much as I loved Darkseid's look in Justice League, they should go with a different big bad, one that's distinct from the MCU.
Now here are my top six suggestions for the "Big Bad" of the DCU.
6. The Centre
The Centre has been rumored for a while to be the big bad of chapter one of the DCU. Fans also believe the Lanterns series will introduce it as a threat that brings the Justice League together. The Centre, I can see as the villain in the first Justice League, but I don't see it as the big bad of the ten-year plan. They could pull an idea that the real Big Bad sends to attack Earth or something.
5. The Legion of DoomNow this is an idea that could work, as I showed in my first Justice League Fan Cast and Ideas. The Legion of Doom would be an interesting idea as the big bad of the DCU, since it's new, and the most significant threat is a team of supervillains. That's something that can make the DCU different from the MCU.
Vandal Savage would be another good choice as the big bad of the DCU, as he has fought the Justice League many times and has led conquests of the world. He's not alien or anything, just an immortal man from BC. Vandal has also led the Legion of Doom, the Secret Society, and many more, so he would be a great main villain of the DCU, and he's made deals with evil gods before.
3. Nekron
Nekron was the main villain of the Blackest Night series, and he is the entity of the Black Lantern Corps. He would be a good main villain, as he can bring the dead back to life and turn them into Black Lanterns. Nekron would be a frightening villain for the heroes to fight, and depending on how many seasons Lanterns goes on for, I can see him being the main villain of the final season.
2. Brainaic Now we know Brainiac is likely the villain of the Man of Tomorrow, though there has been no confirmation, but Brainiac is expected in the film. Brainiac could also serve as the main villain of the DCU, like he was in Injustice 2. Brainiac is definitely a Justice League-worthy villain for them to fight as their big bad. As well, if he is the main villain of the first Justice League film, that would work, since it fits chapter one of the DCU Gods and Monsters.
Now, Mobius the Anti-Monitor is a destroyer of multiverses, consumed with rage over the life his brothers gave the Multiverse. Anti-Monitor was the main villain in the CW Crisis series, and he could serve as the big bad of the DCU. As he's not like Thanos, he wants to destroy all life in the Multiverse, and he started the Crisis on Infinite Earths. So he would be a good endgame villain for the DCU to wrap everything up.
So that's my thoughts on who the big bad of the DCU should be, and if I had to pick the big bad of all the DCU, it would be Anti-Monitor because he feels like he would be the proper final villain for the Justice League fight since the DCU will explore the Multiverse. If I had to pick a second, I would go with Braianic as the main big bad of the DCU, and the others I think could work too, either as main villains in certain Justice League films or as solo superhero films — like Nerkon, who would be a good final villain in the Lanterns show.
