Spider-Noir Review

Spider-Noir Review

So I watched all of Spider-Noir, and here’s my review of it. I loved it as I wrote it before, and I’ll write again. This is what Sony should have done for the live-action Spider-Verse instead of those villain spin-off films. This show is a lot of fun, and I love the detective-noir feel. I watched it all in black and white, and I recommend you do the same. Now is different from the comics, but I really love this show.

Now Nicolas Cage did a great job as Ben Reilly/Spider-Noir, like he was funny, he was cool, and like most Spider-Men, he lost people close to him. Also, the rest of the cast, like Lamorne Morris and Karen Rodriguez as Robbie Robertson and Janet, were great characters, and I got to say it’s great to see the character Robbie Robertson again. Black Cat appears as Ben’s love interest, played by Li Jun Li. Now, she doesn’t wear her costume; instead, she’s a singer at night. The main villain of the show is Silvermaine, played by Brandon Gleason. He’s a cool villain, like obviously they couldn’t use Kingpin, but still, he was a fun villain to watch.

Also, I love this new take on some of Spider-Man’s like Electro, Sandman, and Tombstone. They have very different origins, which I won’t spoil, but I got to tell ya, the guy who plays Electro is such a bastard in this show.

Now, as I mentioned, they do change a lot from the comics, like Spider- Noir, for example, he gets his powers in a different way, which, I will be honest, reminded me of the Crimson Chin’s origin lol. As well, he’s very different from the comic counterpart, who was more serious; this Spider-Noir has more of the Spider-Verse vibe to him. Since Nicolas Cage plays him, he’s much older, whereas in the comics, he was younger. I do find it interesting that they went with Ben Reilly as Spider-Noir. Now, the question is, if Sony announces a Scarlet Spider show, will it be about Ben Reilly or Kaine Parker? I would go with Kaine personally, but we will see. I do understand why some Noir fans may not like the changes. I get it, I wanted to be a darker, grittier show, but I love the show for what it is. However there were some scary moments in the show like Ben’s nightmare scene like it’s pretty scary.

The people who made this show did a great job. I give full credit to Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Honestly, they should have handled the live-action Spider-Verse a long time ago. The show's cast was amazing, and I gave it an 8 out of 10. One of my favorite shows of the year, watch it. If you love Spider-Man and noir-style TV shows, you will love this show and watch it in black-and-white. As well there will be a lot of memes from this show.
