Captain Fantastic Review

My review of Captain Fantastic.

Here is my review of one of my favorite movies, Captain Fantastic. The movie stars Viggo Mortensen, who has never done a comedy before, and this is one of his best films. The film is about Ben, who lives in the forest with his kids, teaches them how to survive in the woods, and home-schools them with his wife, Leslie. However, later in the film, Ben learns that his wife killed herself, and her father does not want Ben there as he blames him for her death. So he takes his kids on a road trip to go to the funeral and honor his wife's last will to be cremated, and her ashes flush down a public toilet. The film is both funny, dramatic, and sad simultaneously because we see how this movie makes fun of society, and some of the humor is offensive but funny. Especially when his five-year-old son asks what rape means and when his eight-year-old daughter asks what crack is. He tells them in full detail about it.

The film has themes of what's best for your kids because we see  Ben's sister and Leslie's parents question his parenting in the movie. They view it as child abuse and say that his kids should go to a real school instead of being home-schooled by him. It doesn't matter how smart they are. They must go to school and learn about the world from others besides Ben. Ben's kids in the movie are all great characters, and the actors did a great job playing them. One of them would go on to star in 1917, and he was the top choice for the Flash in the DCU. The film's ending is excellent, and it's a feel-good ending.

Good advice for any kids who go off to College.

Captain Fantastic has some of the best acting. Viggo Mortensen does a great job playing Ben. It's funny seeing him do comedy because, most of the time, he does more serious films. This film is something you have to watch once in a while because it shows parenting that some consider dangerous, but in truth, the film shows what good parents should be like to their kids. I give this film an 8 out of 10.
