Snow White Review
I saw Snow White, and here's my review of it. It was bad, but I didn't hate it. I just found it boring. There was some good stuff, but most of the songs in the film are forgettable especially the evil queen's song. That is the worst villain song ever, and the opening of the film was weird because it involved baking pies.
Now, the remake is like most remakes. They changed a lot of the story from the original film. Personally, I didn't like the design for the dwarves. I feel like they should have gone with real actors for the roles. Yes, those bandits are in the film, but they are forgettable characters except for Jonathan.
The Hi Ho song is in this, and they had their own take, which was okay but not as good as the old one. Also, my girlfriend pointed out that the film was clearly promoting the new Snow White ride, which she and I went on back in January. Also, I didn't like the dwarves picking on Dopey, which I felt was wrong because the dwarves always looked out for each other and were basically brothers, but sadly, no. It just bothers me a lot.
I feel like The Hobbit, Snow White, and the Huntsman did a better job adapting dwarves because this film's CGI was freaky.
Now, the cast of the film. I know Rachel Zegler was under fire for her comments about the original film, and I do agree that she acted like an idiot in that interview. I mean, I was looking at her and thinking, wow, you are making so many people not watch your film.
However, I will admit she did a good job as Snow White, and this Snow White isn't unlikeable. Like most Disney characters nowadays, many people get the vibe that she is unlikeable, but she isn't. I did like her opening song, but it's clearly Wishing Well but rewritten. Now one scene I didn't like was the one that involved the Huntsman, and we all know that scene. The acting in that scene was cringe and poorly written. If someone was threatening you? You don't just stand there and say why? I'm like, run for your life or something. The scene worked better in the animated film than in the live-action movie.
Gal Gadot didn't do a good job as the Evil Queen. I believe she was miscast. If you had cast Eva Green, she would have nailed it. Now I do like Gal, but she was miscast as the Evil Queen. The Evil Queen's villain song is one of the film's worst and forgettable songs. Disney villain songs are usually the best, like Be Prepared, Friends on the Other Side, Mother Knows Best, Poor Unfortunate Souls, Hellfire, and Gaston. See, those are great villain songs, but the one in this film sucked. Gal can't sing. Also, when the evil queen transforms into the old hag, it's not as scary as the animated one, but hey, they wanted this to be kid-friendly.
Now, the film removes the Prince and replaces him with Jonathan, the leader of the bandits fighting against the queen. I still remember Rachel saying the Prince was a stalker, but he really wasn't the real stalker; he was the evil queen. I liked the character of Jonathan, played by Andrew Burnap, and they should have still made him a prince. The Evil Queen destroyed his kingdom, and now he leads a group of rebels to take her down. Also, I find it funny when Gal Gadot says Snow White won't be saved by the Prince, but Jonathan saves her twice.
Now, is it the worst Disney remake? No, I still consider Peter Pan and Wendy to be the worst. Still, there was some good stuff in this film, like the costume design and the acting, but some scenes dragged on too much; the dwarves could have looked better, and the songs are forgettable except for one. I was bored by this film and didn't hate it or care about it. I give Snow White a 4 out of 10. Hey, if you liked this film, that's fine, but I think Snow White and the Huntsman is much better.
Truth is everyone is just getting tired of Disney Remakes. They need to stop remaking everything and focus on original stories.
