Spider-Man Brand New Day Review

So I saw Spider-Man Brand New Day here is my review of it. I loved it; this was one of the best MCU films I’ve seen by far. This was a great sequel with strong action and storytelling, and it had some funny moments.

The film is set four years after No Way Home, and we see Spider-Man fighting crime and taking down villains such as Scorpion, Tombstone, Boomerang, and Tarantula. Now Spider-Man faces a new threat, but I won’t give it away; we all know who's doing it. Also, he still has a hard time trying to reconnect with Ned and MJ after Dr. Strange cast that spell to make everyone forget who Peter Parker is.  

Now I want to say Punisher was one of the best characters in the film; he was so cool, and seeing him with Spider-Man was so much fun, and it was great seeing rage Hulk again, like it’s about time everyone got tired of smart/beta Hulk. The fight scene between Spider-Man and Hulk is great too. 

Now we do see MJ and Ned again in this film, and they are great as usual. Now it’s not a spoiler if it’s not obvious that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey. This is clearly setting up the X-Men, and I will be honest, some fans won’t like Jean written in this film, and I understand, like she does come off unlikeable, but later you learn why she’s like that. There are a lot of twists and turns in this film, so heads up, you will be surprised by what you see. 

The cast of the film all did a great job, like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Jacob Batalon, Florence Pugh (she returns as Black Widow yes, she is officially Black Widow, Liza Colon-Zayas, who plays Jean DeWolf, and Tramell Tillman. The cast was great in this film. 

This film was a great follow-up to the MCU Spider-Man films. I do hope for more Spider-Man films because, let's face it, you can’t go wrong with Spider-Man well… sometimes you can.

I hope the MCU never has its own Spider-Man 3 or Amazing Spider-Man 2, but I think Marvel and Sony learned a good lesson from these two films. 

I loved this film, and it feels more like just a good superhero film, not just an MCU film. I highly recommend this film because it’s like the MCU is finally getting back on its feet. It also depends on what Avengers Doomsday does, and for the next Spider-Man film, I either want the Venom storyline done right, which could happen in Secret Wars, or a team-up with Daredevil or the Fantastic 4.

This what I want to see in the next Spider-Man film. Either these storylines or have Spider-Man in the next Fantastic 4 film.

I give this film a 9 out of 10. It’s a great film and it feels like something of old Spider-Man films from the 2000s.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender Review 

So I saw Avatar Aang, and here is my review...I loved it. Like, the animation was great in this film, like some of the best animation I've seen in a film. The film had great action, more lore building, and it's just great to see the original Avatar characters back, even though it's not the same voice actors from the show, but still the new voice actors all did a great job. Roman Zaragoza, I thought he was funny as Sokka and did a great job; Steven Yeun was good as Zuko, but I kind of wish they brought back the original actor; Eric Nam was great as Aang, Jessica Matten was great as Katara, and Dionne Quan was great as Toph. The whole cast was great. 

The film is set years after the events of the first Avatar Season 3. Aang and his friends are building Republic City until they learn about and meet a lost airbender named Tagah,h who is looking for a legendary staff that controls the spirit world. We learn more about the four nations, particularly the airbending nation. 

Tagah is the film's villain, voiced by David Bastia, and he's a great villain. You feel for him because he has gone through a lot of horrible events, but at the same time he's driven by grief and anger for the horrors he saw in the past. Won't give anything away, but you do feel for this guy, though you don't agree with his plans.  

The film is funny, with some great moments, and the animation, as I mentioned, was brilliant. This is a great animated film and the storyline is great. It's very nostalgic to see all these characters and their older versions, especially for those of us around the same age as when we watched the series. Honestly, this was a great film, and I had a fun time with it. Also, Cabbage Man comes back, and spoiler alert: his cabbages get destroyed and voiced by Chang from Community; it was so funny. 

I give this film a 9 out of 10. Watch it, and I also see why the creators of this film left the live-action show. I've been told how bad season 2 of the live-action show has been.

Alice in Wonderland Review: Celebrating 75 years of this film.

Alice in Wonderland is a film I watched as a child, and it's hard to believe it's now 75 years old. Alice in Wonderland, we all know, is the story of a 12-year-old girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole and ends up in Wonderland, and she has to find her way back. 

Alice enters Wonderland and meets all sorts of strange creatures who are friendly, weird, and speak in riddles. Wonderland is full of crazy people, but they represent something to Alice, as she likes to think of her world as this. The whole film imagines a world of her own where everyone does this instead of that.

The animation of this film is fantastic, and the background artwork is incredible too. 1950s Disney animated films have a special feel, and, sadly, we don't get that anymore. We all know the story of Alice following a white rabbit down the rabbit hole, and she ends up in Wonderland.

Lol, to this day everyone properly says this when they are late for something important. 

The Dodo Bird was funny in the film especially with his friend Bill the Lizard. 

Fun Fact: the lizard character Bill is also in The Great Mouse Detective. This has led fans to believe all the Disney films connect to each other as Bill went from Wonderland to London. 

In the film, we see Alice interact with many characters who do the opposite, such as the twins and the talking flowers. Of course, we get the mad hater and the rabbit. This was a funny scene because they were drinking to celebrate a birthday, not for Alice, just for fun. 

Of course there are some fun musical moments in the film, and there are sad moments we all feel for Alice because she misses her sister and pet cat. We then meet the Cheshire Cat who basically helps Alice, and he's one of the best characters in the film.

Now, of course, he helps her but sends her to meet the Queen of Hearts, who basically loves to cut heads off. Still, she's really funny in the film, like she chops off their heads when she doesn't get his way.

Fun Fact: The reason the Queen is bigger than the King is that in the book. Queen Victoria had more power than her husband, Prince Albert; it symbolized monarchical power dynamics. So the Queen of Hearts and the King of Hearts basically represent them.

Now, of course Alice goes to court, and you know how the story goes: everyone goes to court and goes crazy, and she grows big, and all the Wonderland characters chase her. 

Wakes up back home, and she goes to have tea with her sister and cat. The film's ending: many people debate whether it's a happy ending because she's back home with her family, or, for some, a sad ending for other reasons. I view it as a happy ending because she realizes it's better to stay in a world that makes sense, and it's with people who aren't mad. Something like that.

Now, interesting fact: this film got bad write-ups when it first came out, but years later, especially in the 60s and 70s, this film became a Disney Classic because, let's face it. Everyone who watches this film does get stoned or high because it's more fun to watch, and that song Alice by Smokie. 

Alice in Wonderland was a fun film to watch as a kid, and I still enjoy watching it. It's more fun to watch high, though. Still, this is a classic film to watch, and it's interesting to know that the voice actor for Alice was also the voice of Wendy in Peter Pan. I like this film, and it's part of my childhood. Watching it, you realize Disney had better animation back then than they do today, to be honest. There were funny moments in the film too. 

I give this film a 7 out of 10. It's a fun Disney classic; give it a watch. 

 

The Odyssey Review Some Spoilers

 

The Odyssey Review

So I saw The Odyssey, and here's my review. I loved it; I had a good time with this film, but I do get why some die-hard Greek mythology fans may not like some of the changes to Homer's Odyssey. There are a lot of changes to the story, and hey, this has been adapted for centuries, so anyone can make any change they want, but some of the changes felt kind of forced or weird like the dialogue.

Now, the film had some great stuff, like the cyclops puppet was one of the best things, and there are a lot of jump scares in this film. Now the film does have good effects and sound effects too. Like, the Cyclops was incredible; I love how they made a puppet rather than CGI.

Now, the film, as we know it, is about Odysseus trying to return home to Ithaca, and he goes through so much hell to do so. He also reflects on the war at Troy. The film is also about his wife and son, who are waiting for him to return, while the suitors want to marry Penelope. We all know the story, so there are spoilers in this review, but this story has been around since B.C. However, I'm not big on them cutting the main reason Odysseus didn't make a sacrifice to the gods: he didn't thank them because he came up with the idea of the Trojan horse without their help. They cut that part out and a whole bunch of other stuff, but I get it for time's sake. 

The film's cast all did a great job; like Matt Damon was great, and honestly, if they made a Dark Knight Returns film, he would be perfect for Green Arrow. Anna Hathaway was great; Tom Holland was great too; Jon Bernthal was great; Zendaya was great; Himesh Patel was great; John Leguizamo was great too in this film; and everyone else was great too. Also, Robert Pattinson as the villain was great; he did a great job playing the bad guy. Like, you want this guy to get his ass kicked because he's so evil in this film. 

The action scenes in the film are great like there are some great sword fighting, action scenes, the monsters in the film were scary, there was some epic moments, the sound effects were great, and again the Cyclops was great and the sack of Troy was great too, but I will say the dialogue was too modern a bit and some changes they made into the story were kind of weird and forced like Circe the sorcereress is suppose to be beautiful and evil but now she's more victim of trauma and also there is a lot they cut from that part of the story which I get and there are other gods that appear in the story but they don't physically appear in the film but as forces of nature. Except for Athena. Also, when Circe turns Odysseus’s men into pigs, it’s very disturbing. 

However, I still like the film despite some issues. It was an epic film, and the climax of the film is awesome- the best moment in the whole film. Honestly, Matt Damon is so bad ass in the ending.

Also, Odysseus' dog is in the film, and I will give people a heads-up: John Leguizamo throws a puppy off a cliff, so yeah, you won't like it, but John's character is one of the best in the film. Still, the dog in this film gets kicked, and you feel anger towards the suitors because no one should abuse a dog, especially one who is 20 years old and waiting for his master.

Helen of Troy appears in the film for only seven minutes. Still, Lupita did a great job as Helen and Clytmnestra. Also, Lupita once said that if she could meet Homer, she would criticize his work, and I would tell her that Homer did write from the point of view of his female characters like Penelope, Andromache, and the goddesses Hera, Aphrodite, Athena and Thetis in his works. Also, she should look up more Greek stories, such as that of Atalanta the Huntress, a woman who fought her suitors to keep her independence.

I'm just saying she needs to read more of her Greek Mythology. 

As well, I find it funny that Helen apologizes to Telemachus for Troy, and I'm like, you and Paris caused the deaths of so many innocents, and you're the reason Telemachus never knew his father for ten years. Saying sorry isn't enough, but they do try to make it out that her husband Agamemnon's fault, and hey, people write their own take on who was more to blame for Troy's downfall. As well, her sister killed Agamemnon, but had she not, he would never have warned Odysseus to keep a low profile until he was ready to reveal himself upon his return home. As well, they cut Agamemnon and Clytemnestra's son from the film too, as he later avenges his father's death from her and her lover Menelaus. Yeah I know I'm going into the mythology details but hey I love mythologies. 

Overall, The Odyssey was a great film, and I did have a great time with it. I mean, there is some stuff that they changed. I know die-hard Greek Mythology fans won't like some of these changes, and I get it, but remember these stories have been around for centuries; anyone can tell any version or updated version if they want. I give this film a 9 out of 10. It is a great film and one of Nolan's best works like you can't go wrong with Christopher Nolan.  

However, it's not the best Odyssey adaptation; the best ones are.

The Invite Review

So I saw The Invite, and here's my review. I loved it; this film was funny, but there were awkward moments. It's basically about a couple who plan a double date with another couple, but everything gets awkward, and their dinner doesn't go as planned. This film also dives into relationships, sex life, and wanting to have something, but it never happened. The film's cast did a great job; Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Edward Norton, and Penelope Cruz were all great, and the film has only them. I did enjoy this film a lot; it had many funny moments and some sad ones, too. I give this film an 8 out of 10.

So I saw Ladies First, and here is my review. It was bad, like this movie about what if gender roles in society were reversed, and it's about a guy named Damian who enters this world, and now he has to find a way back. I didn't think the movie was that funny, and there were cringeworthy moments. The cast was good; I will admit there were some funny moments, but overall, the film was bad. At the end of film basically Damian learns to respect women in the workplace and he works to be a better man. 

I give this film a 3 out of 10.  If you like it, that’s fine, or if you didn’t, that’s fine too.

Voicemails For Isabelle Review 

So I saw Voicemails for Isabelle, and here's my review. I thought it was good, and my fiancée loved it. The film had some funny moments, and some very sad ones. The film is about Jill, whose sister dies from cystic fibrosis, and she leaves her voicemails as she is wrecked after her death; a real estate guy named Wes receives these voicemails. This leads them to meet and start dating. This film makes you want to eat tacos, as they were Isabelle's favorites. This film had a lot of funny moments and really sad moments, especially when her sister dies, because we all have lost someone to cancer. The cast did a great job, and yeah, it was a good movie. 

I give this an 8 out of 10, and my fiancée gives it a 9 out of 10. 

Jackass Best and Last Review

 

Jackass Best and Last

Review.

So I saw Jackass: Best of Both Worlds, and here's my review. It was fun. I had a fun time with this movie; there were some very funny moments, and some of the stuff was hard to watch because it was insane and gross. Still, I had a fun time with this film, and they even show you Jackass stunts they never air. The film was a good send-off for the Jackass group, since they are done after this. I get why Johnny and the rest are calling it quits after 26 years of going through so much pain. I like this film a lot, and I had a fun time watching it. Everyone was great, and there were moments that made me laugh, and some were hard to watch. I give this film a 7 out of 10. I personally like the last one because my sister's name was in the credits. 

Supergirl Review

Supergirl Review

So I saw Supergirl, and here's my review: it was good. Like the movie had its problems, and there were a few moments where I get why Supergirl fans don't like how Kara was written in the film. However, there were some fun moments and great action scenes, and hey, the main man, Lobo, was awesome. 

Now the film focuses on Supergirl, who is drinking and partying until she meets a young girl, Ruthye, who wants to avenge her family's death at the hands of an evil guy named Krem. Supergirl agrees only because, well, Krypto's in the film and his life is in danger. Only Krem has the cure to save him. 

This Supergirl is based on Tom King's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. I know some fans of the book won't like some of the changes the film made. I'm not a big fan of Tom King’s work personally, because he has character assassinated a lot of characters. 

Now, the movie does come off as too much like Guardians of the Galaxy and Mad Max, and I've read reviews pointing this out. I agree, it's got too much Guardians of the Galaxy mixed with Mad Max vibes. Especially, some of the music moments were like that; they don't work for that scene. Also, I will let you know that, like Superman, Supergirl gets her butt kicked a lot. What is with the writers of DCU making two of the most powerful heroes get their butts kicked so easily? Hopefully, Man of Tomorrow fixes that. Also, they do change Supergirl’s origin, like she is younger than Clark. In fact, when Clark left Krypton, Kara wasn’t born yet, changing the canon. As well there was good messages in this film but Kara doesn't wear the suit till the end of the film. 

Still, overall, I thought this movie was good; it's a lot better than the 80s Supergirl film, and I will say the cast did a good job. Like Milly Alcock, she was good as Supergirl, and we do see Krypton in this film, and I won't spoil anything, but if you're hoping for a Brainiac cameo, no go. Also Eve Ridley she was good as Ruthye but she was kind of annoying like she was like Jade from Jackie Chan Adventures, Matthias Schoenaerts played Krem and he was an evil villain but he's forgettable like I think they should have gone with Mongul, Livewire, or Silver Banshee as the villains but maybe the sequel Livewire would be a great villain for Supergirl to fight. 

Jason Momoa was awesome as Lobo, and he was born for that role. After Aquaman, I'm so glad they kept him and made him Lobo. I want the Main Man to get a spin-off film after this, and it needs to be rated R because the Main Man is not good in PG-13. David Corenswet is back as Superman in this film, and he was great as usual.

I will be honest, I do think they should have made a Wonder Woman film after Superman, and I say this because I feel like the DCU should have introduce the Trinity first in Chapter One. The Supergirl film, I think they should have saved for like the end of Chapter One or the start of Chapter Two. I know they are working on a Wonder Woman film right now and I hope it's good. I just think now Gunn should have started with the main three before these other projects. 

Still, overall I did like this film, and there were moments I liked and others I didn't, especially one at the end of the film that made me say, "Now I know why Angry Joe was pissed at the end of the film." I give Supergirl a 6 out of 10. It is a fun movie, and I'm sure you will have a fun time watching it. Also I don't think the DCU is dead after this film it just needs to learn what does work and doesn't work for future projects. As well if Lanterns and Clayface fail then it's dead but hopefully those projects deliver. If not it's back to the drawing board.
