Accepted Review
Accepted was an old favourite of mine from the 2000s. It was a great comedy film about college. To celebrate this film's 20th anniversary, here is my review. Accepted is a film about Bartleby, a high school graduate who didn't get accepted into any college, so he and his friends, who all got rejected, decide to create their own college where everyone can learn anything.
They called themselves South Hartman Institute of Technology, aka S.H.I.T. However, there is already a college named that, but it's north, and that causes a lot of problems, especially since Sherman played by Jonah Hill before his career launched is going to the north one, and he's treated like crap by his fellow college students. The dean of that college wants to tear down the old building and expand the college.
The film had some very funny moments, especially with Lewis Black as Ben Sherman's uncle, a former university teacher. He was so funny in the film. The funniest scenes were with him working at the shoe store, and the scene where he talks to Bart's parents is funny too. I also love Lewis Black's line at the end of the film: "You got four years, these are the best years of your life. And then you’re fucked." lol. Ben was one of the best things about the film.
I also love the ask me about my wiener scene. It's funny to know that Jonah is in a hot-dog suit and would go on to become an Oscar nominee.
Honestly, when I was a kid, I thought South Harman would be a cool college to go to. It feels like a college where you would be accepted no matter what, and they let you choose what you want to learn, like what you're passionate about. I love one scene where Bartleby goes to North Harmen and sees how stressful college is: it's a lot of work, and no one is having fun at all. I can relate those college movies lie to us. I remember how hard college was, too, but hey, I had some fun times and made great friends.
One of my favourite scenes is Bartley and his friends asking everyone what they want to learn. Some want to learn to rock, design clothes, take cooking classes, meditate, do woodworking, and, most of all, blow up shit with their minds. This makes me wish I had gone to a college like this; it would have been great and stress-free. I think more colleges need to do that: ask a student what they want to learn, what career path they want, and what their backup is.
The film's cast was awesome, like Justin Long, Blake Lively, Jonah Hill, Maria Thayer, Lewis Black, Columbus Short, Diora Baird, Travis Van Winkle, and Robin Lord Taylor. Every one of these actors went on to do great things with their careers.
Overall, I have loved this movie since childhood; it's worth a watch if you love college films or are going to college. I give this film a 7 out of 10. It's a fun movie to watch, and I recommend it to anyone who wants a good laugh.
