Val Zod Superman TV Series Fan Cast and Ideas.
However, since we are getting Elseworld films and shows from the DCU. I think a Val Zod show can work, unlike Ta-Nehisi Coates' Superman project that got cancelled because David Zaslav wasn't happy with the script, and according to him, it was too "woke." However, Ta-Nehisi Coates doesn't exactly have the best record when it comes to writing Superhero projects. Look at his Black Panther and Captain America runs, which are awful. He sidelined Cap and Black Panther in his stories.
A Val Zod Series could work if done right, and it's got to be in its own universe and under Elseworlds.
Now, Val Zod is not like Clark Kent; he is of the House of Zod, but unlike Superman, he was sent to Earth as a child and was taught that violence was wrong. Since then, Val made a promise he wouldn't fight, but after the world needed a Superman, he rose up and became Superman of Earth Two.
Now here is my fan cast for a Val Zod the New Superman TV Series.
Stephan James as Val Zod/Superman
Val-Zod, the last son of Krypton, is of House Zod, but unlike the House Zod we know from the main timeline, this House Zod was honourable and didn't try to conquer Krypton. Val was fostered by House El. Val survived the destruction of Krypton and was taken by Terrance Solan, who let him live in an underground bunker. In the series, Val is discovered by the new Wonders, who need his help to stop a new threat, Brutaal, who is a Kryptonian. Val, of course, doesn't want to be the new Superman because of his passive ways until he sees how the world needs a Superman and how Clark Kent himself hated violence too, but still would protect the people he cared about. Val's journey to Superman is him pushing aside his beliefs doing the right thing.
Sidney Sweeney as Kara Kent/Power Girl
This Kara Kent was Supergirl and was adopted by Clark Kent and Lois Lane. However, after the deaths of both Clark Kent and Lois Lane, she became Power Girl and joined the New Wonders. She was opposed to the World Army's methods and believed heroes should be allowed to fight crime without joining the organization. Kara finds out from the Accountable that Val Zod, a childhood friend of hers, is still alive, and is a prisoner of the World Army. She realizes he can help them battle Brutaal. As even Power Girl, a Kryptonian, cannot defeat this new threat. She's also best friends with Helena Wayne, aka Huntress, as they both worked together after the deaths of their families and became sisters.
Now, the Batman of Earth 2 is Dick Grayson, and this Dick Grayson is a combination of both Pre-Earth 2 and New Earth 2. He was Robin for a time but retired the mantle to Helena Wayne, and he married Barbara Gordon, who, in this universe, never became Batgirl, and the two of them had a son named John Bruce Grayson, named after both his grandfathers. After Batman's death during the Apokolips invasion, Dick took in Helena Wayne, and like her, he was a mess over Bruce and Selina's death. Helena then encouraged Dick to continue fighting crime, as she believes her father would want Batman to live on. Hearing this and finding an old recording from Bruce saying that Batman must live on. So Dick decides to honor Bruce by becoming Batman and keeping the Bat legend alive. The new Batman then formed the New Wonders that would protect the world without the World Army's help. I know he played Dick Grayson in Titans, and I thought he did a great job, so I would cast him as Dick Grayson, but as Batman.
Ella Hunt as Helena Wayne/Huntress
Helena Wayne is the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle, and she became a crime fighter like her parents, first as Robin and later as Huntress. Her parents' death broke her, but with the help of Kara and Dick Grayson, she vowed to continue her father's work by fighting crime as Huntress and Dick as the new Batman. Huntress finds out from one of the World Armies that this is a Krypton trapped in the World Army by Terrence Solan.
Tom Glynn-Carney as Alan Scott/Green Lantern
Alan Scott, the Green Lantern, is a superhero with the power of the Green that comes from nature. Unlike the Green Lanterns we know from the comics. Alan is a member of the New Wonders and is second in command. Alan's origin is the same; he had a boyfriend named Sam who was killed in a train crash. Alan met the Green and vowed to avenge his fallen love, becoming the Avatar of the Green using the ring he had planned to give to him.
Jay Garrick is the Flash of this universe, and he's younger and is the jokester of the team. He gained his powers when he dropped out of college. His girlfriend, Joan, broke up with him, and he felt lost. However, Hermies, the Messenger of the Gods, came to him in a dying state and bestowed his powers upon him. Thus, he became the Flash, the fastest man alive.
Vanessa Morgan as Kendra Saunders/HawkWoman
Kendra Saunders is different from the DCU, as she was a former member of the World Army and later became a treasure hunter. She also goes by Hawkwoman instead of Hawkgirl. Hawkwoman joined the New Wodners as she had disagreed with the World Armies' views and was against forcing superpower beings to join them without a choice. She also gained her powers, but in an unknown circumstance while searching for the Helmet of Fate.
Rami Malek as Khalid Ben-Hassin/Dr. Fate
Now, the Dr. Fate of this universe, Khalid Ben-Hassin, was an archaeologist in Egypt, till he found the helmet of fate by the sorcerer Nabu, and he donned the helmet and became Dr. Fate. Hawkwoman was initially supposed to find the helmet and bring it to the World Army, but instead she gave it to Khalid, who then put it on, and thus he became Dr. Fate.
Ben Carloan as James Olsen
Now, this Jimmy Olsen has the exact origin, except he's a hacker and one of the most intelligent people on Earth. He also goes by Accountable as his web name, but was taken prisoner by the World Army as he sought to expose Terrence's sinister intentions and bring him down. He's the one who sends a message to Kara, telling her of Val and how they need to rescue him, as he is the Superman they need. James is also freed and joins the New Wonders, and he also inspires Val to become the new Superman, as he, like Kara, knew Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Henry Cavil as Superman
Jensen Ackles as Batman
Alexandra Daddario as Wonder Woman
Now the first episode we see the original Wonders and how all three of them died saving the world from Darksied. It would be like the prologue in Fellowship of the Ring.
Anna Sawai as Sonia Sato
Sonia Sato is a member of the World Army and is hunting down the new Wonders, but at the same time, she respects them. She doesn't want to arrest people who are protecting the world, and she would eventually turn against Terrence and help them free Val.
Kunal Nayyar as Amar Khan
Amar Khan is a commander in the World Army, and despite believing in the army's cause, he has actually been working to change it. He eventually sees Terrence for the villain he is and reforms the World Army to do good, rather than forcing others to join. Terrence Solan, or as he was called, Mister 8, was a member of the original Wonders. He was the only survivor of the team and went on to form the World Army. However, Terrence then found Val and took him in, but secretly locked him away and experimented on him. Seeing how Val wouldn't fight he learned that Ultra-Humanite had found another Krypton and so he secretly worked with him and the krypton named Xa-Du would become the new Superman. Terrence then releases the Brutaal, but initially wanted him to capture the New Wonders and forcing them into the World Army. However, Brutal goes crazy, and is eventually stopped by Val the new Superman. Terrence is eventually arrested for his crimes and locked away in a prison like Val's.
Bryan Crantson as Ultra-Humanite
Ultra-Humanite was an enemy of Superman and secretly worked with Terrence Solan to create a new Superman called Brutaal. Ultra found Xa-Du another surivior of Krypton he took him in and trained him to use his powers but Ultra had dark intentions with him. He wanted to turn Ultra into a Superman that would conquer the world for him and destroy Superman's Legacy. Eventually Terrence learn of this and secretly joined with Ultra to create a new Superman who obey the World Army and capture anyone without being part of them. As Terrence did not care for Val seeing him as a weakling. However, Ultra had different plans and Brutaal goes crazy and starts killing everyone including members of the World Army. When Val learns what Ultra did to his friend Xa-Du, he beats the crap of Ultra but stops as he lets the World Army arrest him. Fabien Frankel as Xa-Du/Brutaal
8. The series loosely adapts Earth 2 but makes changes from it's relaunch.
The series would be an Elseworlds project set on Earth-2. Now, Earth 2, if you've seen my past blogs on it, you already know what Earth 2 is about. Now the Val-Zod TV series is somewhat different from the comics, for example, Val Zod is our main character and point of view, a new Wonders of the World team already exists, Power Girl and Huntress never got lost in different realities, Dick Grayson is the Batman of this universe, as he is a mix of New and Pre Earth Two Dick Grayson. The world army is in the series, and they are more grey than good. As well there is no Lois Lane/Red Tornado too. Terence Solan is the leader of the World Army and he is one of the main villains along with Ultra-Humanite.
The series would also be an hour long, consisting of eight episodes in total.
7. The series opens with the deaths of the Trinity and how their deaths impacted the world.
In the series, I think a good opening for the episode is showing Val escaping Krypton's destruction, as he was taught by his parents that violence is wrong. He arrives on Earth and is taken by Terrence Sloan, who takes him to a secret room underground and gives him a peaceful life. Terrence even tells him of the Wonders of the World, who were Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Terrance himself as Mister 8. He tells Val about Superman, who was from Krypton, and realizes he was of the House of El. Val reveals that he was fostered by Jor El and Lara El and was friends with Kara Zor El. Val is told about how Superman died saving the world from Apoklips along with Batman and Wonder Woman. He was the only survivor along with Supergirl and Robin. Since then, the World Army was formed and vowed to protect the world from danger and train superpower beings for combat. Val, of course, hears this and says he will never fight, as he is against it, and Terrance agrees with him. However, Terrence is not who he seems to be and he finds another Krypton and decides he will be do what needs to be done.
6. The World Army
The World Army does exist in the series, and they are protecting the world, but at the same time, they are very shady. When the World Army formed, they wanted to recruit more superpowered beings to their army, but if they refused, they would be taken by force. The only group of heroes who won't join are the new Wonders led by Batman, who refuse to join and are the number one threat to the World Army. Members of the World Army have some good intentions, such as Sonia Sato, who genuinely cares for the team and recognizes the good they are doing. However, Terrence Solan, the leader of the World Army, wants to force every superpowered being under their watch.
5. The New Wonders of the World already exist in this universe and they are wanted by the World Army.
Now the New Wonders of the World are already established in this universe. The team is led by the new Batman, aka Dick Grayson, the first Robin, until he retires the mantle to Helena Wayne, until he returns to his crime-fighting ways after Bruce's death and the death of his wife, Barbara Gordon. Kara Kent is currently Power Girl, and after the death of Clark and Lois, she then becomes the protector of Metropolis, but feels alone since she is the last of Krypton, until she learns about Val, Jay Garrick as the Flash of this universe. He gained his powers from Hermes, the Messenger of the Gods. Alan Scott is the Green Lantern of this universe. Unlike most Green Lanterns, he received his power from the Green Lantern Corps. He is like new Earth 2 counterpart, Hawkwoman who is a former member of the World Army who now wants to expose them for what they are, Helena Wayne the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle was Robin for a time until the death of her parents she quit the mantle, she lived with Dick Grayson until she had desire to fight crime like her father and she encourage Dick Grayson to continue her father's work as Batman. She becomes the Huntress as she's too old to be Robin, and Dr. Fate, the magic member of the team who helps the new Wonders battle against criminal threats and the World Army. The New Wonders learn about Val Zod and want to free him from the World Army, but they also need help battling a Brutaal, a new superpower being another Krypton, that not even the New Wonders can defeat without a Superman.
Val Zod and Kara Kent would have a romance with each other as they were childhood friends. In the show, Kara learns of Val's being trapped in the World Army, and she makes it her mission to save him. She also helps Val understand the real world, not some prison, and teaches him how Superman has saved so many lives, and the world needs a Superman more than ever. Val, of course, can't do it until she, along with Batman and James Olsen, teaches him that Superman himself hated violence, but despite that, Superman still protected the people of the world and the people he loved.
3. Val's journey into becoming Superman and why it goes against everything he was taught.
One interesting aspect of Val Zod is that he doesn't believe in violence and prefers not to hurt anyone to resolve his problems. However, he later grows and understands that even though taking up the mantle of Superman and having to fight your foes is something he doesn't like. He comes to realize that sometimes you have to fight to protect the people you love, and when he sees how much the world needs a Superman who gives them hope. He realizes how much the world needs hope, a defender, and someone the world can look up to. When he becomes Superman, he does it to honor Clark Kent, just like how Dick Grayson took up the mantle of Batman to honor Bruce Wayne. As well, Val and Dick become best friends as they both know the pressure of honouring their fallen predecessors and doing their best as the new Superman and Batman. 2. The series is a coming of age of storyline.
Now the series would be a coming-of-age story for Val Zod, and Val never wanted to be Superman, as it goes against what he stood for. However, being raised by Jor-El, and when he becomes Superman, he keeps the House of El to honor him and his son for heroic deeds instead of the House of Zod.
So that's my Val Zod Superman TV Series Fan Cast and Ideas.
Let me know what you think and I hope we will see more Elseworld projects.
