My thoughts on the Silmarillion possibly getting adapting.

My thoughts on The Silmarillion possibly getting adapted.

So there's been news lately that Peter Jackson is talking with the Tolkien estate to adapt more of Tolkien's work. Like The Silmarillion, Beren and Luthien, Children of Hurin, Fall of Gondolin, and The War of Wrath. These storylines from the first age are the ones I want to see adapted on screen, but done well. I can't deny that some of them would work better as a show, because in a movie, you have to cut or shorten certain plotlines.
Now I trust Jackson more with these books being adapted over Amazon or the Rings of Power writers any day. But I also think that Jackson should just be a producer of the films and serve as a Kevin Feige. I'm down for him to write the films, too, but he let someone else direct these projects.
Now Jackson is simply talking with the Tolkien Estate. We don't know if they will say yes, you can do it, but you have to make sure it's respectful to Tolkien's work, or they might just say no and tell them you'll have to wait till the books enter the public domain in the 2040s. That is what could happen, but I do want to see this happen. I think it depends on how Hunt for Gollum turns out, because now we know the movie is drawing inspiration from the Joker film, which could be both good and bad.
Now I know some may not want Jackson to handle The Silmarillion because of the Hobbit films and the animated War of the Rohirrim, which I understand, like those films, had issues, and I had some problems with them. I still like the Hobbit films personally, there are some issues, but I still enjoy them, especially Martin Freeman as Bilbo. We all know it was more the studio's doing than Jackson's, because he didn't want to make it a trilogy; he wanted it to be a two-parter, but they forced a third.
Because let's face it, the writers of The Rings of Power butchered Tolkien's work and added their own agendas, unlike Jackson, who was respectful to Tolkien's beliefs. Jackson is more trustworthy with this than they are, as long as there's no forced love story or original characters who are there for no reason, like Alfred.
Now, if we do get a Silmarillion film, I would start with Feanor and the Silmarils, then Beren and Luthien, Children of Hurin, The Fall of Gondolin, and then end it with the War of Wrath. I would make it a five-part film series. Kind of like what Rings of Power is doing, because let's face it, Amazon can't cancel the show despite the bad write-ups because they put so much money into it.
Also, seeing Fingolfin fight Morgoth would be so epic on the big screen.
Including that scene in the prologue of Fall of Gondolin would provide a compelling introduction.

If I were to choose directors of the film, I would have Jackson direct the first film, Feanor and the Jewels. Then he remains as producer and writer of the rest of the films.
The next film, Beren and Luthien, I would get Bryce Dallas Howard to direct.

For Children of Hurin, I would go with Robert Eggers to direct. He has the right style to make Children of Hurin because he knows how to do tragedy.

For The Fall of Gondolin, I would go with Matt Reeves as director because I love War for the Planet of the Apes.
and for the final film War of Wrath I would go with Denis Villeneuve.

So yeah, that's who I go with to direct The Silmarillion films, but we don't know if Jackson will make a deal with the Tolkien estate to adapt these stories, because I do believe these are worth telling on the big screen. It all depends on what Hunt for the Gollum and Shadows of the Past do that will convince the Tolkien Estate to adapt The Silmarillion. I also admit I think some of The Silmarillion would work better as a TV series adaptation, but who knows. So yeah, I love the idea of more Lord of the Rings films that are set in the First Age, but I just want them to be good and faithful to Tolkien's work.
That's my thoughts on The Silmarillion getting adapted for the screen, but again, it's just talk so far; we shall see what they say. If WB reveals they are going forward with The Silmarillion, you can bet Amazon will be pissed, or they might say no, just wait till the books go into the public domain.
Let me know what you think?
Happy Victoria Day
To all!!!
