My Top Ten Favourite Community Episodes!
Growing up, I loved Community. It was one of my favorite shows; it was so funny, and it gave us funny memes like this.
Here are my top 10 Community episodes. It's amazing that everyone on this show went on to do great things with their careers, and we are getting a Community film with everyone coming back except Chevy Chase, but he was an asshole on the set, so no big loss.
Now here are my top ten favourite episodes of Community.
10. Remedial Chaos Theory
Now, I know some of you may strongly disagree with me on this being at 10, but I know it's one of the best episodes of Community, and I agree. Now, this episode has the group at Abed and Troy's apartment, playing games. The Pizza comes, and one of them has to go get it; Jeff rolls a die to decide who will go. Abed tells him he will create seven different timelines. We see the timelines, and the funniest was when Troy got the pizza; it was so funny. The episode ends with Abed pointing out that the dice only have six sides, so Jeff won't get it. They all force Jeff to do it, and at first, some people thought this episode was hating on Jeff, but no, you see Jeff actually smiles like he was fine with it because he loves his friends, and getting the pizza prevents the darkest timeline. Everyone parties, Pierce destroys the gnome to get back at Troy, Jeff gets the pizza, and he just smiles and eats while everyone dances. We then see the darkest timeline, and it's so funny and dark at the same time. Overall, I do enjoy this episode. I felt like in season 3, Jeff had it bad in the beginning, like he acknowledges that, especially when he grabbed an ax and hit the table over Pierce coming back, and Pierce admits, yeah, he did this, Jeff, because he wanted to be the good guy for once.
9. Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking
Now, this was one of the funniest episodes, where Abed makes a documentary of the group while Pierce is in the hospital. As well, Pierce gives everyone a special gift, and the funniest storyline is Abed meets Lavere Burton, his favorite actor, but he didn't want to meet him; he just wanted an autograph because he would be disappointed if he wasn't what he thought he was.
LOL that face says it all.
This episode made me laugh, especially during the scene where Jeff thinks his father is coming to the hospital, but it’s actually Pierce, and Jeff beats the crap out of him. I also find it funny and ridiculous that Pierce wants everyone to take him seriously, but Jeff points out that he isn't actually proving anything. As well, Jeff realizes that taking out his anger on Pierce was an admission of his issues with his father, which he needs to resolve. These moments make the episode hilarious, and I love it for that. Chevy Chase may be an asshole, but he can be funny.
This episode was funny for many reasons, one of them being Abed pants Troy, everyone laughs, Troy returns the favor, and Pierce pants Shirley, let's just say she wasn't wearing anything underneath. Pierce is kicked out of the group (Well, we all know Chevy would leave the show after season 4 because to him the show wasn't funny, but it was; he just has an ego.) Also found it funny when Abed smashed Pierce’s guitar, since it was on his list. As well, Jeff and Britta deal with some teenagers who mock them for being college students at their age. In the end, Pierce and Shirley make amends and help Jeff and Britta get payback on those teens by pantsing them; one of the teens' moms is embarrassed and ends up sleeping with Jeff.
Now, this episode featured Jack Black as a guest star, playing Buddy, and he was one of the show's funniest. Buddy wants to join the group because he thinks they are so cool, and this episode had me rolling, especially when Buddy kicks Jeff in the face by accident. This episode was one of the funniest ones I watched, and the ending was funny because they let Buddy join, but he was later accepted into the cool group led by Owen Wilson, and it turns out the group was actually a second choice.
Community Christmas episodes are always fun to watch for the holidays, and here is one of them. I love this episode because it has good musical numbers and it mocks the shit out of Glee. Dan Harmon, the creator of Community, hated Glee, and he never understood why people love it. The episode's opening was hilarious, especially the Glee club members' freakout when they find out they've been canceled, and Chang just laughs at them. When I saw that, I was like, if only that happened to real Glee characters.
LOL that's how I feel about Glee too.
So basically, Jeff gets the Glee Club canceled, and a new teacher comes and recruits the group, and each member, except for Britta, has their musical number. Abed then realizes the teacher wants to keep the group going after Christmas, so Abed has Britta sing, and she's not the best singer. We also learn that the teacher was actually the one who killed the original Glee Club. This episode was fun to watch if you love Christmas and hate Glee.
Here is another Christmas episode that I love, Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas. It's one of my favorites because they use clay animation. The episode has a good, heart-warming message about the holidays and the importance of family and traditions. Also, the Lost joke was funny because I know people who loved the show Lost, and they can relate to Abed when he says this.
This was a great Christmas episode and a funny one too, especially when Abed was tasered for his musical number.
Modern Warfare is an episode where a single announcement about paintball sends all of Greendale into a frenzy. It's so funny, like Jeff takes a nap in his car, and he sees all of Greendale turned into a war zone. The scene had some funny moments, and the episode does explore Jeff and Britta's relationship; it's too bad it didn't become a full thing, but hey, Jeff ends up with Annie. I found the funniest moment was when they got ambushed by the Glee club, and again, they are mocking Glee, especially when Jeff shouts, "Write some original songs!" Dan Harmon really hated Glee, and I understand Community is way funnier than Glee.
This was a great episode to watch; it's just funny how crazy Greendale goes over paintball.
Now, this episode I love, and it's one of my favorites. Now I know this episode got banned, but now it's unbanned, all because Chang was a Dark Elf and came off as blackface. Even Yvette Nicole Brown defended the episode. Here's a link to her interview. One thing that's great about this episode is that it calls out bullying.
Now, in the episode, there is a character, Neil, who is fat and depressed with his life until Jeff pretends to be interested in DND, so he and the group plan a DND game designed by Abed and Troy. Pierce, of course, was not invited, and he basically is a total dick to Neil, even stealing his sword, which shocks everyone. This episode had a lot of funny moments and a good message about calling out bullies. In the end, Neil wants to play DND again with Pierce, and he accepts the offer. This was a great episode, and I love it to this day.
Now, this episode is Chang at his best, where he takes over Greendale and imprisons the dean. So the group has to rescue the Dean and stop Chang, who's going to burn down the school with a guitar solo that bursts into flames. This episode was just so funny, and one of the funniest moments is when Britta rescues the Dean, and he's disappointed it's not Jeffery. Chang is just so funny throughout this entire episode; in every scene he's in, I just laugh, especially with Changlorious Bastards. This was a great episode, honestly. The group is at its best in this episode.
Honourable Mentions
Documentary Filmmaking: Redux
Dean goes crazy with his Greendale commercial, and who doesn't love Luis Guzman? It's so funny how Greendale builds a statue of him. I hear Luis gets royalties from that statue.
Inspector Spacetime is a parody of Dr. Who, and this episode was great. Especially because Community predicted a female Dr. Who, and Britta sees it and loves it, but Abed tells her. "Everybody hates her, not because they're sexist but because she sucks." It's funny because that is what happened when they made Dr. Who into a woman.
This was a funny episode where the gang finds all their lost stuff that a monkey stole. Also, Jeff and Brita broke up but on good terms. As well, this is the episode where the quote "Six seasons and a movie!" came from, as Abed loved the Cape show, but it got canceled after one season.
Horror Fiction In Seven Spooky Steps
Now, in this Halloween episode, each gang member tells a scary story. Pierce was the most Pierce story-like in the end; everyone is shocked and disturbed by it. He calls himself Mangum if you know what that means. The other Halloween stories are funny too. Especially Shirley, with the Dean as the devil shouting gay marriage.
Now, in this episode, Chang is putting his name to the change word, and it's not clever, as Jeff says.
As well, Shirley and Andre are getting back together because she's pregnant, but it turns out Chang might be the father. Eventually, it's proven that Chang isn't the father. Still a great episode, and I found it funny that Pierce reveals that Shirley and Chang had sex, all because he didn't want to lose the kettlecorn that Rich gave them.
Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations
Now, in this episode, Jeff finally confronts his father, whom he hasn't seen in a long time. Britta is so funny in this episode, as she's wanted to help Jeff with this for years. Also, this is a great Thanksgiving episode, especially when the group goes to Shirley's.
Advanced Introduction to Finality
Now this episode is a funny one because it's all in Jeff's head, where the Darkest Timeline group comes to destroy the group. It was funny when the Dean was preparing Jeff's graduation, and dark timeline Jeff arrived wearing nothing but his boxers, walked away, and Dean heard his secretary scream. Instead of being concerned for her, he just says, "Catherine!?! Do not even tell me you dropped that cake."
As well, Darktime line Abed tells Abed that Cape was renewed for six seasons and a movie.
and my favourite Community episode is....
Pillows and Blankets to me is the best Community episode because the whole story is basically Abed and Troy reliving their old days as kids, building blanket forts or pillow forts, which I did when I was a kid too. However, this causes a rift between them, and all of Greendale gets divided over pillows and blankets, and it is so funny, but also like really all of Greendale is at war with each other over pillows and blankets forts. I love how they make it a documentary and make it look like a historical event. Also, Keith David as the narrator was a great choice, and he later joined the show for the final season. I love it when the Dean tells Starburns to watch it, and he freaks out and shouts, "My name is Alan." The dean screamed, laughing, and of course, Pierce's pillow suit.
To me, this episode is the best Community episode. It's so well written, and the ending of it was great, especially when Jeff resolves the whole thing. This is a great episode, and I love it to this day. Especially when Jeff asks Keith, “Weren’t you in the Cape?” and he responds, “No I wasn’t.”
These are my top 10 favorite Community episodes. Let me know what you think, and I'm excited to see the Community film. I can’t wait to see what happened to everyone after the final season.
I can see a scene where the Dean doesn't touch Jeff because times have changed, and he doesn't want to get Metoo. Jeff would have a lot of fun with that.
