Power Rangers The Movie Review
To celebrate 30 years of the Power Rangers Movie from my childhood. As a little kid, I loved this movie, and I watched it every day. I loved Power Rangers growing up, until after Dino Thunder, I lost interest in the series. Although I've heard good things about the comics from Boom Studios. I've read some of the stuff, and it's excellent. So, to celebrate 30 years of this film, here's my review of it. The film opens like Star Wars, and we open up with the Power Rangers going sky diving, and later Lord Zed releases Ivan Ooze to destroy the Power Rangers for him.
Now, Ivan Ooze is basically a funny villain, and he loves to cause mayhem and pain. He's been enemies with Zordon for years, and he hates him for missing out on the Black Plague, the Spanish Inquisition, and most of all the Brady Bunch Reunion, which was improvised by the actor Paul Freeman.
Now, the cast of the film did a good job as we saw them on TV, but there's no character development with the characters, such as not getting some personal storylines with them. They fight and get their powers back after Ivan destroys Zordon's life support. Initially, the red ranger Jason, the black ranger Zak, and the yellow ranger Trini were supposed to be in this film. However, after the contracts failed, they left the show, and their replacements took over.
So the team goes to a planet to save him, and they meet a warrior named Dulcea. When I was little, she was one of my first childhood crushes.
It had something to do with the outfit?
Fun Fact: Johnny Yosh Bosch didn't like that his meagzord was a frog. His reaction in this scene wasn't acting; he did not like it at all. Eventually, Adam got a green ox in Zeo Power Rangers, and Johnny is now one of the best voice actors out there. After this, he went into anime, and now he's Ichigo, Nero, and Broly.
Now, Delcea gives them their ninja powers and sets them out on their mission to get their powers back, as they now have animal zords.
Now, of course, they get their powers back and fight Ivan Ooze, and as adults, the CGI was awful. I get it's from the 90s, I know, but come on, they should have stuck with the robot models like the show. The 2017 reboot Megazord is a million times better than this film's Megazord.
It's a shame we didn't get a sequel but hey we are getting another reboot.
Now the film ends with them defeating Ivan Ooze by kneeing him in the nuts.
Seriously, they beat the villain by kneeing him in his nuts, and he hits a meteor. No epic kill moment, just that. There is also a subplot with a kid named Fred who finds out Ivan Ooze is going to kill the parents, and he, along with Bulk and Skull, saves them. The film ends with the Power Rangers having a nice dinner and celebrating their victory, and they save Zordon in the end with the Great Power.
Now again, this movie's plot doesn't make sense as you get older because, as a kid, you loved it no matter what, , but despite that, the film is still loved by 90s kids. It was a film of its time, and hey, it was popular. Now, as a kid, I loved it. As an adult, I'm like, this film wasn't that good. It lacked storytelling and character development. I give this film a five out of 10. However, despite this film being part of my childhood, I'm looking forward to seeing the upcoming reboot film they are making.
They should look at the Boom Studio comics for inspiration on how to tell a good Power Rangers story with good character arcs, development, and a plot that makes more sense. That's the best source to adapt a good Power Rangers film.
An idea for the Power Rangers reboot film from Paramount, look at Boom Studios' Power Rangers comics for ideas.
That's my review, and let me know what you think.
It's Morphing Time!
I went with the Red Ranger because he was my favourite.
