Sky High Review Celebrating 20 years of this classic.

Sky High Review

To celebrate 20 years of this classic film, here is my review of Sky High. A lot of people remember this film as it was a Superhero film before Disney bought Marvel, about real-life superheroes going to Sky High, a school to teach teenagers to use their powers for good or end up becoming villains. This film has a great cast, funny moments like "Remember, when we use to use real civilans?" and the other teacher laughs nervously. "Yes." That is funny and pretty dark, too. The teachers in the film were funny too being played Kids in the Hall Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald and of course Bruce Campbell as Sonic Boom or Gym Teacher Man.

The film is about Will Stronghold, played by Michael Angarano, who is the son of the greatest superheroes Commander and Jetstream, played by Kurt Russell and the late Kelly Preston.

Will finds out he doesn't have powers, unlike his friend/love interest, Layla, played by Danielle Panabaker. (By the way, I met her once, and she's super friendly.) They go to sky high, and each person has to be assigned to hero class or hero support, basically sidekicks. Will gets into sidekick class but really enjoys it and is glad to be close to his friends, but that all changes when a guy named Warren Pierce hates Will because his dad put his dad in jail. Will's powers finally show themselves, and he is strong. Of course, Will gets moved up to hero class, but you can tell he doesn't like it. He then meets Gwen, who is a senior, and Will has a crush on her, and she has the hots for him too, which is weird to some people. Why would a high school senior have the hots for a new kid?

Eventually, Will sees Gwen's true colors as she drives Will away from Layla, who's actually in love with Will, and Will teams up with Warren against the bullies, and they beat them to save the Citizen. Will realizes that Gwen is actually the daughter of Royal Pain, and after he finds out, he discovers that she stole the pacifier gun that turns people into babies. Will, of course, arrives, and everyone but his friends are babies, and they save the day, and I loved Will's reaction when he finds out Gwen isn't Royal Pain's daughter but actually her, and Will says, "Oh my god...I made out with an old lady." It's also funny because he would make out with Julianne Moore in the English teacher. Will defeats Gwen with his friends, as he says in the movie.

"My girlfriend became my arch enemy, my arch enemy became my best friend, and my best friend became by girlfriend. But hey that's high school for ya."

This film still holds up 20 years later, and it's a classic superhero film that's not part of any universe. I would have loved to have seen a sequel because there were plans, but they never happened. Which sucks because the cast of the film wanted to make a sequel, but they have all gone on to pursue new opportunities in their careers. I give Sky High an 8 out of 10. I highly recommend you watch this film because it is a classic.
