Superman Review
So I saw Superman on Saturday, and here's my review of it. I really enjoyed it, having a good time with this film. This is by far one of the best Superman films I've seen in a while, and it's a good start to the DCU. Some of the action scenes were good, but there could have been more of them. Now the cast of the film.David Cronswet was fantastic as Superman, like he nailed the role of Clark Kent/Superman. He is by far the best Superman since Cavil. He felt like Superman, like the comics and the animated series. This Superman was likeable and he brought hope to so many people. He was not sidelined. This film is a very driven Superman film.
Rachel Brosnahan was great as Lois Lane; she was perfect casting, just like David. She did such a great job playing this character, and she was funny too, especially with Jimmy Olsen. Her romance with Clark is good, too, which I like. I also liked her Lois Lane a lot more than Amy Adams'. I liked Amy Adams, but it was weird that there was a ten-year difference between her and Henry Cavill. Rachel and David are the same age; she was born in 1990, and he was born in 1993, which makes more sense.
Nicholas Hoult was incredible as Lex Luthor; he's the best we've seen in a while. He is so much better than Jesse Eisenberg. He was a villain who believed he was the hero of the story, but he wasn't. This is the most comic-accurate Lex Luthor we've gotten in a Superman film.
Now, the Justice Gang, many people were worried that they would steal the attention of Superman, but they don't. The Justice Gang is one of the best characters in the film. Like Mister Terrific, he was one of the best characters in the movie. Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern, was funny in the film, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the Lanterns show. Hawkgirl was cool in the movie. I'm glad the actress got a better role after Madame Web. These three characters were well-written, and they didn't feel forced, which I appreciated because Gunn was true to his word. This is a Superman story, and it focuses only on him.
I'm looking forward to seeing these characters in future projects.
Also, Metamorpho was a cool character too, and when you see him in the movie. His powers are cool, and the actor who plays him does a great job.
The rest of the cast did a great job, especially the actor who played Jimmy Olsen; he was great and hilarious, too. I also love how the film addresses Clark's glasses and how they protect his identity.
The other villains in the film, like Enginer, she was really cool, and you can expect to see her in the Authority film and Ultraman. I'm not surprised by who he is if you read the comics, and that's all I'm going to say. Also, Rick Flag Senior returns in this film, and he's still really cool.
I also love that this is the first Superman film where Pa Kent isn't dead. I'm glad that trope was phased out, and the guy who played Pa Kent did a great job, and his scene with Clark was great. A real father-son moment that we don't see a lot nowadays. This is one of the best scenes in the film, along with the scene with these people, a Superman flag, and all shouting his name, showing that he is a hero to everyone.
Krypto is one of the best characters in the film, and let's face it, if they killed him off, we would riot.
Krypto also reminded me of my own dog, which I thought was funny, even my girlfriend.
The film has some issues; some of the humor felt forced and unnecessary. There are moments where Superman gets his ass beat a lot, they made a change to his origin that I'm not a big fan of, but overall, I enjoyed the film a lot. It feels like a good start for the DCU, and heads up, there are cameos in this film, and I like them a lot.
In the end, I really enjoyed this film, and the DCU is off to a good start. I'm looking forward to watching Lanterns, Brave and the Bold, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and many more.
I give Superman an 8 out of 10. Go see it because the DCU is going to surpass the MCU at this point.
In a world full of Homelanders,
please be a Superman.
