Hellboy Animated Double Feature Review

Hellboy Animated Double Feature Review

Here is another Hellboy review, this time on the two animated films from 2006 and 2007. Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron. These are two animated Hellboy films that featured the original cast of the film, and they were excellent and really fun to watch. Made you wish they had made an animated series because the animation was fantastic. Additionally, these films are more closely tied to the comic continuity than Del Toro's film series, despite the actors returning from the first film.

Now I'm going to start with Sword of Storms.

In this film, Hellboy gets trapped in a feudal-era Japan ruled by a demon and must fight his way out, facing many terrors from Japanese folklore. One thing I love about Hellboy is Mike's creative ways of incorporating folklore and mythologies from different countries. In this film, the story of the sword is that a lord offered his daughter to these demons, but a samurai who loved his daughter challenged them and was given the sword of storms, which he used to defeat them. However, the lord was angry about this act, and the gods punished the samurai by turning him to stone, and the lord killed his own daughter. Now, Hellboy is trapped in this demon world, and he must uncover the sword to free himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, which had a great voice cast and was animated exceptionally well. I love the action scenes, and some funny moments made me laugh, and Liz and Abe's storyline was good and funny too.

Next is Blood and Iron.
Blood and Iron has John Hurt returning as Professor Broom in this animated film. In this film, Hellboy, along with Abe, Liz, and Broom, goes to a mansion in Hungary where they learn about a vampire named Ezabet, based on the real-life Duchess Elizabeth Bathory, who was rumored to bathe in the blood of young women to retain her beauty. The film gives you a good Halloween vibe as it's got vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and monsters. I really loved the vibe of the film, and if I had to pick between the two, this was my favorite of the two animated films. I also enjoyed the flashbacks with Broom and his connection with Elizabeth. The ending of the film was great, and the fight scene between Hellboy and the goddess of witches was great too.

Overall, I love these films and I highly recommend watching them. They are fun films to watch, and it is a shame we never got to see more animated films. There were plans to create another Hellboy animated film called Phantom Claw, but it never materialized, nor did they consider an animated series. But hey, there is a comic series based on the animated movies.
I give both these films an 8 out of 10. I know I said Blood and Iron is my favourite, but I really enjoy both films.
Happy Halloween
To All My
Viewers!!!!
