My Top Seven Scariest Characters from Childhood.
Now growing up as a kid, we all watched characters from shows or movies that we loved, but we also had characters who scared the crap out of us when we were kids. That gave us nightmares for weeks until we got over it and got older, and are now more scared of tariffs.
So, for this Halloween, here are my top Seven Scariest Characters from childhood.
I'm sure many of you will remember how scary these characters were when you were young.
7. The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Now, the creature from the Black Lagoon, what made him scary was that he was in the water, and he came up, grabbed you, and dragged you down into the water. I've got to be honest, this scared me as a kid, and it would make anyone afraid to go swimming in a lake or on a beach because of the idea of something in the water grabbing you and dragging you down to eat you. The Gill-Man was a scary villain, and before Jaws, this character made people afraid to go swimming in the water.
That is something we all fear when going into a lake, but it wouldn't happen unless a fish or other aquatic creature swims by you.
6. The Old Hag From Snow White
The Old Hag from Snow White was one of the scariest villains I've ever watched. I mean, the voice and the laughing were scary. I mean, the original Snow White ride had the old hag at the beginning of the ride that made tramming for kids. The old hag from Snow White was one of the villains; although she may appear friendly, she's actually evil with no remorse. So, don't speak to strangers, and if they offer a sweet, don't take it.
The Evil Queen's disguise has been truly terrifying since childhood, and let's face it, the live-action version toned down the scary hag. It's one of the reasons the film sucked, but I get that they didn't want to scare kids.
Maleficent is one of Disney's greatest villains, and she was scary from childhood, especially in the scene where she hypnotizes Aurora. The music background and the echo of the word "Aurora" would make anyone shake in terror. If you watch that scene in slow motion, let me tell you, it makes you shiver. Maleficent was a scary villain, and like the way she talked, and when she attacked, Maleficent was one character that scared you as a kid, but as an adult, you understand why she was pissed about not being invited.
That is the smile of one of Disney's best villains.
Now, I love the Joker, and he is one of my favourite villains in comic books. However, as a kid, I was scared of the Joker at one point. Especially when I saw more comic art of the character, I remember being scared of him. Watching Mask of Phatsam Joker was scary, as he was not a goofy villain like he was in the show, but rather more serious and menacing. In Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, the scene where he grabs an old Bruce Wayne and says, "Hello, Batman," and laughs, I was scared by his laughing and what he had planned for Bruce Wayne.
We all love Joker, but the character is the reason we are all scared of clowns now.
Now this character gives me nightmares for a long time, like when I watched the animated series, his laugh scared the crap out of me. I even met John Kassir; he's one of the nicest guys I've met. I told him thanks for giving me nightmares until I was nine, and he laughed and said, 'Glad to hear it. The' Crypt Keeper was the scariest character I used to watch as a kid, but hey, the episodes were fun to watch till next boys and girls.
Even though Casper is a family-friendly film, this scene scared the crap out of me.
I mean, seriously, this is scary as hell.
Now, a fun fact. The actress who played the wicked witch, Margaret Hamilton, said that this role hurt her because so many kids were afraid, and it upset her until Fred Rogers helped her. She also got burned while filming the movie. The Wicked Witch of the West has undergone many changes. For instance, Mila Kunis played the character in Oz, and she was scary, similar to Margaret.
However, the Wicked movie portrays her as a more sympathetic character, and she's actually a good guy, always has been. Still, the Wicked Witch of the West is a nightmare fuel character from our childhood.
and the number one scariest character from my childhood is....
1. Gollum
Gollum is one of my favourite characters in fantasy, but he scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. I even told Andy Serkis this once, and he was nice about it; he understood. But I love Gollum now. However, this character scared the shit out of me more than the Nazgul or the orcs. I was terrified that his origin would be explored in The Return of the King. Just as we see how he obtained the ring and witness his transformation, it is horrifying. Imagine seeing this crawl out of your bed. Smeagol's pre-transformation was more disturbing than his current look.
One thing I always found scary about Gollum was his eyes and their creepy appearance. Even as a hobbit, he looked like a frightening guy. I remember my skin crawling when I saw Gollum getting angry and about to attack Frodo to get the ring. It made my skin crawl, and it still does to this day. However, even though Smeagol is a sympathetic character because he didn't ask to be this way, his actions and what he does make him a creepy character. It's also implied that he eats babies as well.
Gollum is the scarier character from my childhood, but now he's one of my favourite characters because he's a great, sympathetic villain that you feel for, yet also hate for his actions.
That's why I'm excited to watch the film 'The Hunt for Gollum,' and I hope it's good.
That's My Top Seven Scariest Characters from Childhood.
Please let me know what you think and which characters you remember being afraid of as a kid. Let me know.
Happy Halloween
