My Review of Perfect Blue
So I saw Perfect Blue, and this is one of the most messed-up films I've seen, but also it's good and fascinating. The film is about a J-pop star named Mima who is changing up her career to be an actress, but she learns of a website named after her, and she learns she has a stalker. The film dives into mental health, but it also dives into obsession because it has a twist that no one saw coming. Also, this film is hard to watch, like when Mima's acting career goes like, at first it seems like she's doing a cop show, but there is some messed-up stuff that she does, and it would traumatize anyone for the scenes that she does. There is even one scene where an actor apologizes to her for the scene they are about to do, and he doesn't even like this scene. However, some murders happen to certain people, and there is a creepy stalker too, who, honestly, is someone you think it is, but in a twist, the real stalker is someone you least expect.
This film has excellent animation, and the voice cast is fantastic. It's one of the best thrillers I've seen in a while, and it's worth checking out, but it is disturbing to watch, though.
I can see why this film is a cult classic and is considered to be one of the best anime films ever made. This film has been compared to Black Swan, to which Darren Aronofsky acknowledged this, but says he wasn't inspired by the movie to make Black Swan; his other film, Requiem for a Dream, features a remake of Perfect Blue's bath scene.
Even the director of Perfect Blue said he loved Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream and has even met him.
I give this film an 8 out of 10, and I recommend it, but heads up, it's a messed-up thriller film.
